A small museum inside a small museum. Worth visiting just to see the Teatro Anatomico which has amazing wooden carved statues of famouse medical men of the area from yesteryear. A beautiful and unusual room with fantastic wooden carvings and decor throughout. The rest of the museum is ok, not a must do for me, but definitely worth seeing. I can imaging in the summer it will be packed and lots of queuing.

Situated in a pretty piazza, Neptune greets you as you enter. Lots of detail in the sculpture and worth a visit when visiting Bologna.

Magnificent complex of buildings, city art collection, spectacular recently restored frescoed ceilings and the greatest views over the main square. Spent 2hrs here including going to the clock tower. The main town hall rooms are free to enter, otherwise €8 for everything else. For the art gallery, information on specific pictures or rooms is minimal but there is a free QR code guide system which gives further detail as well as another QR guided system run by the MuseOn app which you pay a couple of €'s for which I didn't try.

We arrived and departed from Bologna Central during a recent stay in the city, finding it convenient for travel to/from Bologna. It is a functional rail station connected to the city centre by bus, taxi or just walk 10-15 minutes to wherever you need to go.

Rail tickets can be booked online, through mobile app or at the self-use ticket machines at the station. Departures and arrivals are clearly listed just upon entering the station, signage to the various platform is easy to follow. There are a few casual eateries, coffee and food shops at the station as well as across the street at the shopping arcade as well.

We stopped here for the whispering walls. It actually works. You have to be diagonal to each other. The design of the archway is such that the sound of a whisper travels. Very cool!

The beautiful historic centre of Bologna is filled with porticos and walkways, but the Portico del Pavaglione rightly deserves special mention. This is one of the most important and best preserved public spaces of medieval Bologna. Pavaglione is the longest uninterrupted portico in Bologna. Look up and you’ll see a mix of undecorated groin vaults, while others are beautifully decorated in different themes. Some of these appear to be noble coats of arms, while others are floral and natural themes.

Apart from the awful wait in the freezing entrance, once inside it was worth the wait
Vivien took these photos back in 1950 - early 1970s.
Mostly of ordinary people she met on the streets of New York and Chicago.
Many were unaware they had been snapped

Looked at a couple of other reviews and wasn't sure what it would be like BUT it is small with a decent amount of art and some narratives.
If you want a full exploration of his work, probably not the place for you. If you want a fun introduction to the style and genius of the man in a relatively small focussed space then it works.

This palace from the 13th century has a Gothic style. The portico is supported by wooden beams.

The palace was restored in the 1910s and is now the seat of a private Officers' Club.
