we had been in Trieste and were bound for Venuce but a friend and said we should stop in Udine to see this palace and the wonderful Tiepolo paintings. It was well worth the visit

Unfortunately, it wasn't possible to go inside, but from outside cathedral is beautiful with a nice square in front of it

I love this place and regularly visit it. The works are fascinating and the mix of old and contemporary is just fascinating. A must see!

We had visited all the art museums and had a spare afternoon and decided to come here. What a brilliant decision! We had a wonderful experience and essentially got a guided tour. We do speak Italian (not fluently) and the lady was so keen to talk to us about the exhibits. There are sections on weaving, medicines, religion, clothes, woodworking etc. It is very well set out. Don't let a lack of Italian put you off as they do have an English leaflet.
The best visit of our holiday.
    Grazie mille!

We managed to visit at the second time of trying. The first time it should have been open, we asked in the duomo and they said it was closed due to a lack of volunteers.
Anyway, it has a beautiful sarcophagus and lovely frescoes. Free entry with donations. There is an A4 information sheet in English but the volunteer in duty was very keen to conduct us on a tour in Italian. She was very informative and we got a lot more from the visit.
No photos at all allowed, so not sure how others have got photos on TripAdvisor.

We visited mainly for the art museum, which is partly closed. The art museum is fine. However, we liked the parliament room, but for us the highlight was the archaeological museum. There are simply wonderful exhibits of glass, jewellery and ceramics. The staff were so friendly and informative but it will definitely help if you can speak Italian. Having climbed up on a hot, sultry day we then spotted that there is a free shuttle bus!

I would like to express my sincere compliments to Luca Franzil, the owner of ArtTime Gallery. The exhibition was perfectly thought out and organized from beginning to end. Mr. Franzil carefully took care of every little detail. A big compliment and thank you!

A hike up the hill on the edge of the historic center brought me to the Castle Museums. Crowning the castle was a weather vane of a golden angel. The field beside the castle afforded a view of the Alps, hazy in the distance.
The Museum of the Risorgimento, the 19th Century resurgence of Italian cultural and political identity, was well-done. Although the explanatory texts were only in Italian, it contained a lot of artifacts. I especially liked the propaganda posters and magazine covers from 1918.

The Archaeological Museum of the City was opened in 2013 in spite of the extensive collection owned including the significant lapidary open to visitors on the porch toward the north lawn.
Private collections of Francesco Di Toppo (aristocrat, writer and archaeologist), Augusto de Brandis and Luigi Pio Tessitori (pioneer in research in India) are the backbone of exposure which gradually also growing with the findings of recent excavations in the square May 1 for the underground garage.

Are the findings of the crossroads the North Adriatic from the Neolithic to the present day, is destined to grow and take a greater scene in Udine, is well presented and the welcome given by the same Francesco di Toppo "in person" that gives you the welcome seeing yyour arrival. In fact, an original video clip impresses good the visitor entrance and restores it in the middle of '800.
