What a wonderful plaza. Make sure to look out over the ocean for the vistas and down the coast in order to see Mt Etna. Sit a spell and watch the world go by in this classic plaza.

A pretty little church up loads to steps, but so worth the view. You can’t go all the way up to the castle but the view from the little church is amazing

The coastline north of Catania is very different from the sandy beaches towards the south. Lava streams from Etna reached the sea here during past centuries. The rock formations are stunning. The vegetation of cacti and succulents is special. Here and there are coves where people can reach the sea and boats can find shelter. Along the coast there is a promenade that is excellent for a walk.

The north coast of Sicily has some of the best beaches, and Cefalu is fortunate to have such a long stretch of beautiful sand. It is lined with historic buildings and a choice of several beach clubs where you can rent lounges and enjoy a meal.

Across from the promenade are many interesting shops, cafes, and restaurants.

nice for a walk and to go out at night. But for those who like the sand beaches don't go there and choose another beach.

Lipari is where my grandparents came from. Our AirBnB was located on the Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, close to the ristorantes, shops and the port. We hired a car from Pit Stop Noleggio which gave us the freedom and flexibility to travel to some of the beautiful quiet beaches such as Canneto and Acquacalda, both of which are close to some great ristorantes. We went to Pianoconte, the birthplace of my grandparents. We visited the magnificent Quattroocchi with stunning views over to Vulcano. The Chiesa Vecchia di Quattropani also has fantastic views across the islands, as does the Osservatorio. Check out Lipari Castle - it has a museum and some interesting Roman sarcophagi.

Cute little stairs that have very nice and supportive things written on the walls. The stairs are a bit long but if not, recommend just stopping by and visiting it (the things are written in italian)

This is the main Piazza in town and from which you can navigate around the principal streets of the town centre. There are a number of shops and a few restaurants and cafes right in the Piazza.

We found this little park area by the harbour side in Messina when our cruise ship was docked in the port for a day. We had completed a walking tour of the city using a fairly basic tourist map and now was exploring the immediate harbour area before returning to the ship. The little park here gave us one of our most abiding memories of our visit here.
The park had some trees giving welcome respite from the hot Sicilian sun and also an artistic fountain the ‘Fontana Bios’ which was running with water and there were small groups of people here and there enjoying the late afternoon sun.
The park gives some lovely views back over to the port where our cruise ship was moored and also to the statue of the Madonna perched on her lofty vantage point at the entrance to the harbour.
However, what made the scene for us, was a group of ‘older’ men congregated at the railing with one fishing for small fish in the harbour. What looked to be a family group of feral cats were watching the fisherman intently, obviously waiting for some scraps. The whole scene looked ‘timeless’, and will remain with us forever. We watched this lovely scene for a while and enjoyed the ambience of the park and its surrounding area, before returning to our ship past the yacht marina. A lovely way to end a walking tour of the port, thankyou Messina!

This is the main street of the inhabited center of San Leone where you can find many restaurants, ice cream and bars. Much frequented by tourists in the evening for the locals and the afternoon for its beaches (not recommended for my opinion because the sea and the beach are dirty).

A sunny and windy day walk by the beach. It was very peaceful and beautiful. Strong waves for March. Free parking close to the beach.
