- 481EpicureanEast Sussex, UK177 contributionsOrtigia is the island at the tip of Syracuse and is a wonderful place to visit. Great restaurants, bars, lots of history and things to do and see although it is a wonderful place to relax. We had a wonderful time her on Ortigia and would very much recommending it as a place to spend some time in Sicily.Written March 8, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LauraSouthampton, UK13 contributionsA really beautiful beach, well worth the visit. My partner and I walked down from the high street, and took the shuttle bus back up. Definitely a work out for your legs!
The beach was relatively quiet due to the time of year, and there was only one salesman trying to sell an excursion.
Main thing to note is that it's a stony beach, so shoes are A MUST! And also there are jellyfish in the water!! I was surprised that there were no signs indicating this, but after speaking to locals, both types of jellies (brown and red) sting. You can get 'afterbite' in the local pharmacies, but I decided not to swim after that!
The island is very pretty to look at and explore. A really fun trip, provided you're aware of all of the above.Written March 11, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Very interesting museum with lots of significant artefacts.Written June 12, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Dream7765361 contributionBeautiful! But have a firm plan and reservations for your activities there before you go. Very little English spoken and nothing like a welcome center or tourist info center.Written July 18, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - GC_TPHDublin, Ireland253 contributionsLampedusa is the southern most island under the Italian Republic, (with a convenient airport too), it has a number of incredible and marvellous beaches! The flagship beach is the well know ISOLA DEI CONIGLI - RABBIT ISLAND! The colour of the water in the morning is magnificent! It is such a unique experience. Unfortunately July and August are really busy months to go there, plus they were some limitations due the risk of rocks falling down and the cliffs, and the presence of the environmental italian association Lega Ambiente focused on protecting the turtles eggs (Caretta Caretta specie), even if this year I saw them only the Guitgia beach not here.
Anyway marvellous experience. It has be to be done!!!Written October 4, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. You are delivered to the green side and could almost wonder where the volcano is -did I see a little glow of red up at the top in the undergrowth? The small town is quite interesting but mostly given over to routes to the top but there are some interesting buildings and alleyways. The black beach of volcanic sand with its coloured boats is just waiting to be photographed. When the boat takes you round the back, everything changes. This is a volcano with screes running from the peak down into the sea and flashes of light coming from the crater at the top. As darkness descends it becomes more dramatics with mini-eruptions every ten minutes or so. It’s not always like this - there can be violent eruptions, hence the screes. But not when we visited. The boat trip back to Vulcano where we were staying was a two hour drag in the cold but, hey, this was a real live working volcano. Strombolicchio - The boat took us on a little side excursion to the Stromboli trip to use up some time before dusk fell and we repaired to see the volcano doing little eruptions every ten minutes or so. You can’t set foot on the rock (it would be extremely hazardous; just look at the photos) but it was a little delight to see and, of course, to photograph from every angleWritten October 5, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Travelingjohn123Peterlee, UK2,418 contributionsNice lace to visit. This seems to be the only worthwhile place to get off and have a good look at if you are on the tourist jump on / jump off bus.
Nice interesting shaped, rocky outcrops and a walkway around the harbour.

- PaulaGalvinKildare, Ireland727 contributionsFor 3 euro you can take a trip around this lovely island, be mesmerised by the crystal clear waters and just relax under the Sicilian sun.Written September 6, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - flyrobflyLeeds, UK350 contributionsThis is a beautiful and quiet island. It is very small, probably 4 miles ish long. It is not over developed at all and is peaceful. The main town is small but has a lot of variety of places to eat and drink. There are some beautiful beaches but these tend to get quite busy in peak session (it's a popular resort for Italian's). Ideal for a week or rest and relaxation/ a couple's holidayWritten August 20, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
