- PaulMSMunich, Germany184 contributionsNice little beach, but it can be crowded. However, make an effort and stay for the sunset. It's worth it.Written September 8, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Simone SSeville, Spain785 contributionsThis is an amazing place! I recommend getting there with a long walk from Calamoresca so that you can see one of the most beautiful places of Tuscany! Bring your lunch and enjoy the day and the sea!Written January 2, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Simone SSeville, Spain785 contributionsNot only this is an interesting building from an architectural point of view, but the vistas from up the tower are incredible! - Christina PUnited Kingdom1 contributionBeautiful clean beach with amazing Chrystal clear waters. Lovely shallow sea perfect for spotting fish & snorkelling. Only problem was parking; although there are areas for parking these spaces get filled quickly during the peak summer unless you get there early . There are also limited toilet facilities & you either have to pay to use them or purchase food or drinks to use the toilets which are provided by the restaurants. I would definitely visit this beach again which is like the Italian Carribean.Written September 19, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AnnaTriandafyllidouToronto, Canada115 contributionsThis is a beautiful seaside green area, clean (but full of mosquitoes). But the beaches are just stunning. The sand is white and the sea is shallow at the beginning, ideal for families with children. The water is crystal clean and when later in the afternoon when most people go the absolute beauty of the place emerges. There are no bars at the seaside, which is good. There are however some sellers of cold drinks and ice creams that pass by with their bicycles. Important to bring your own food and drinks.Written June 6, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- JenvdGroningen, The Netherlands13 contributionsWe knew Poggio Rosso from a wine tasting a couple of years ago and came back for 10 days of glamping. The tents are spacious and luxurious providing everything you need, including a kitchen and a bathroom. They are located amidst of nature with a lot of space between the tents. The level of service provided was exemplary, we got everything we needed and more, including restaurant reservations, complimentary coffee and museum tickets and a late checkout free of charge. Another plus is that you can buy a bottle of their great wine at precisely the right temperature from the reception at any time. We had a great time, highly recommended!Written July 31, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Brun066Florence, Italy12,580 contributionsWe walked some paths within the northern sector of the Piombino promontory, on a beautiful March Sunday, and we keep a beautiful memory of it.
It was a ring route, which was held as a guided group. For the route, about 7.5 Kms in length and with a total uphill difference of about 175 mts, we spent about 6.5 hours: a very large time, because it included both many stops, in which the guide has explained the environmental and historical place's features, both the long stop for eating our packed lunch (carry also water enough!) and for the resting on the "Cala di San Quirico" rocky beach.
Our route started from the "Reciso" car park, a few dozen mts downstream of "Populonia alta" village, and first walked the #300 path up to the San Quirico ruined church; from there it diverted to the west and to the sea, passing through the ruins of a monastery (named from San Quirico as well) and following the #303 path; at the junction - already near the sea - with #302 path it followed it northwards; finally, at the junction with the #301 path it followed it up to the return to the parking lot.
A printable map of these paths, summary but sufficient for orientation, can be found on the website "vivipiombinoelavaldicornia.com".
Most of the route took place in the thick and shady Mediterranean scrub (which allows this route even in the height of summer). In the area surrounding the "Cala Di San Quirico" and "Buca delle fate" coves, the route is a bit less shadowed, but it also allows gorgeous vews on promontory's cliffs, on the Tyrrhenian Sea and on the Islands: by clear weather, you can see perfectly, as well as all of Elba Island, the island of Capraia and Corsica.
Obviously, we highly recommend this route.Written March 24, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Simone SSeville, Spain785 contributionsThia used to be a popular beach decades ago, but then people got lazy and now it's never crowded. Which is for the best! A 20 minutes walk from Calamoresca will get you to this beautiful beach (with rocks, not sand) where the water is crystal clear and ideal for a swim!Written January 2, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Brun066Florence, Italy12,580 contributionsCompared to the nearby "Buca delle Fate", Cala San Quirico ("Cala" = cove) is much less known, for more reasons.
For those who walk along the Piombino promontory, the Buca delle Fate is the first accessible beach you come across, whether you arrive from the Gulf of Baratti through the # 302 coastal path, or whether you arrive from the so-called “Reciso” car park through the # 301 path (direct, then shorter). And also the beauty of the Buca delle Fate is such, that one isn't encouraged to walk further.
Cala San Quirico instead meets first only if you arrive through the # 302 coastal path in south-north direction (the online map of the paths of the Piombino promontory is available in some websites, e.g. "toscanacostaetrusca.it").
The cove is located on the site where a deep valley carved into the promontory's body reaches the sea; it features a beach composed mainly of large rocks. Even the seabed near the shore is stony, and also has outcrops of large rocks, evidently consumed by the swell over millennia.
Off these rocks the sea becomes deeper so you can swim, but I haven't experienced it by myself; in fact I visited the cove in March, when swimming is unthinkable, except for a few brave people.
However, both the cove in itself and the paths that give access to it allow gorgeous views on the nearby Elba island, on the farthest Capraia, and by clear weather also on Corsica.
Moreover the inaccessible nature of the place, and its remoteness from any road, make these places unique on the whole coast of Tuscany (apart from the islands) and therefore a visit is strongly recommended.Written March 27, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Inside the interior is almost sparse in comparison to most Italian churches but it has a quiet, crepuscular calm.
