What an amazing building. It is beyond belief that something like this could be built so long ago. We went to Mass there and there was a first communion. It was truly special. One of the many reasons to visit Orvieto

An amazing structure and worth the trip down and back up the other side-250 stairs down and the same coming up the other side The stairs are very wide and low and there is plenty of room for people to pass if you need a break,I have a bad knee so went at my own pace rested at the bottom and a slow trip back up.So glad I didn't pass it up as it is unique. It is included on The Orvietto card which was good value if you are staying a few days and have time and interest in visiting all the sights(20 Euro each)

We took the 3:15 tour in English - tickets are purchased at the Tourist Info office, across the street from the Duomo. (Not the office for tickets to the Duomo, the one next door). From your gathering spot outside the ticket office, the tour guide will lead you to the locked entrance. The views to the south are beautiful. You can take photos once underground, but no videos. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed learning more about the Etruscans and Romans

We added this to our other Orvietto underground tours, they are all different and we enjoyed this one very much.It is self guided which suits us and there were plenty of information points explaining the history ect along the way (in english) Only 2.50 Euro reduced entry (65+) which is very reasonable There were stairs but nothing strenuous .The gift shop at the end sells lovely hand made pottery and other items.Good to add to your Orvietto experience

I don't know much about what I saw but it wouldn't encourage me to join the church! Well worth seeing from an artistic perspective and a memory which will live with me (for better or worse) for some time.

Leon and his family run a wonderful winery. The property is beautiful, well managed and the vino, OUT of this world. Well with the time and this is the First time we have ordered wine to ship home (and from Italy no less)

Treat yourself to a wonderful afternoon at this property and it’s only 10 minutes outside Cortona.

    Bravo Leon!

The duomo is wonderful and the two inner chapels are simply breathtaking. It is worth buying a combined ticket that allows you to go to several places for free. Exception is the archaeological museum, unfortunately. You should not miss the funicular, the easiest and most interesting way to get to the centro storico. The best porchetta is available at Il Negozietta, 5,5.- Euro with truffle cheese.

Call ahead! Just a few minutes from Orvieto, this gorgeous property is a gem! Their wines are delicious and Andre was very kind and knowledgeable. An amazing learning experience. You can also choose a tasting with charcuterie. I highly recommend!!

We were encouraged by hotel staff to visit this end of town for it's vista and this medieval church, one the oldest in Umbria. The frescoes and entire church are a walk through history. A must see and as another review said a stark contrast to the Duomo.

We were lucky enough to experience several wine tastings at Le Velette during our stay in Orvieto during the month of June. They were all fantastic!
We especially loved meeting the family that runs this place with such love and attention to every detail. We chose the tastings with local meats and cheeses and they were wonderful experiences. On another occasion we took a cooking class with the talented Marta, who is an amazing chef and teacher. Giulio and Teresa, who gave us wine tastings on several occasions, were incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable. The grounds are absolutely beautiful as is the view of Orvieto from the winery. And we loved the wine (AND the olive oil)!! Very reasonably priced and delicious. I can't recommend the tastings and activities offered by Tenuta Le Veletta highly enough.

Besides the many great artifacts in this museum, one of the best reasons to go is the view of the Orvieto Duomo 's mosaics. Ascend to the 3rd floor and there is a long bank of widows overlooking the great square on the Duomo. You will at the same level as many of the mosaics across the square, making viewing easier (and less crowded!)

During our visit to Orvieto recently we had hoped to catch a performance in the beautiful Teatro Mancinelli on the Corso Cavour of this beautiful city. While we didn't get to enjoy a live performance, we were able to take a self-guided tour of the theater and the upper floors of this gorgeous performance space. For a modest cost you are able to spend as much time as you wish, lingering in the main opera house as well as the upstairs performance spaces which are well worth a visit.

This is a small museum, but has a lovely Etruscan collection. The kind employees made sure we found our way and had a chance to view the frescoes. I highly recommend visiting the Crocofisso Necropolis at the northern base of Orvieto first, as a lot of the materials in the museum came from there.

Would definitely recommend the wine tour! You learn about the region, the soil, the wines & to have a delicious lunch with a spectacular on Orvieto. Giovanni was more than a perfect host!
To start, the lovely Palazzone gave an amazing view on Orvieto. The welcome was really warm and relaxed, my pregnant wife could relax insight in the cool Palazzone. I had the privilege to have a perfect host during the wine tour, Giovanni. In perfect English he explained the history of the lovely Palazzone, the winery and the process of making wine. Thereafter, we had an absolutely delicious lunch (the Gnocchi was heavenly) accompanied by the fantastic Palazone wines.
