What an amazing building. It is beyond belief that something like this could be built so long ago. We went to Mass there and there was a first communion. It was truly special. One of the many reasons to visit Orvieto

An amazing structure and worth the trip down and back up the other side-250 stairs down and the same coming up the other side The stairs are very wide and low and there is plenty of room for people to pass if you need a break,I have a bad knee so went at my own pace rested at the bottom and a slow trip back up.So glad I didn't pass it up as it is unique. It is included on The Orvietto card which was good value if you are staying a few days and have time and interest in visiting all the sights(20 Euro each)

My family just returned from a trip to Italy, and this wine tasting was easily one of our favorite experiences. The tasting and tour of the property, including the vineyard and Etruscan caves (used to age the wine), was led by Angelica. She was great -- so welcoming, kind, and very intelligent. We loved learning about the history of the land, the wine making process, and the different types of grapes they grow. The tasting took place in a beautiful repurposed church, and in addition to the wines, we were able to sample bread, meats, and cheeses all from local vendors. Amazing from start to finish -- will recommend to all visiting the area!!

We added this to our other Orvietto underground tours, they are all different and we enjoyed this one very much.It is self guided which suits us and there were plenty of information points explaining the history ect along the way (in english) Only 2.50 Euro reduced entry (65+) which is very reasonable There were stairs but nothing strenuous .The gift shop at the end sells lovely hand made pottery and other items.Good to add to your Orvietto experience

I don't know much about what I saw but it wouldn't encourage me to join the church! Well worth seeing from an artistic perspective and a memory which will live with me (for better or worse) for some time.

Orvieto was the first hill town we visited. We eagerly climbed the tower. The stairs are easy to navigate though there are many of them to reach the top. The view is 360 and totally worth the climb.

We were lucky enough to experience several wine tastings at Le Velette during our stay in Orvieto during the month of June. They were all fantastic!
We especially loved meeting the family that runs this place with such love and attention to every detail. We chose the tastings with local meats and cheeses and they were wonderful experiences. On another occasion we took a cooking class with the talented Marta, who is an amazing chef and teacher. Giulio and Teresa, who gave us wine tastings on several occasions, were incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable. The grounds are absolutely beautiful as is the view of Orvieto from the winery. And we loved the wine (AND the olive oil)!! Very reasonably priced and delicious. I can't recommend the tastings and activities offered by Tenuta Le Veletta highly enough.

This cooking class and winery tour were truly a highlight of our visit to central Italy! We especially enjoyed the tranquility of this site as well as the beautiful views. Gianlucca was very personable and attentive and gave a wonderful winery tour with many fascinating details and a peak into the wine caves. Patrizia, our chef, was very patient with us and helped us create a delicious 4 course meal. We made parmesan and proscuitto snails, arugula tagliatelle with a fresh tomato sauce, a giant meatball with a boiled egg in the middle(!), and wine cookies for dessert. Gianlucca served us our meal in the lovely dining room overlooking the valley. Each course was paired with one of their wines, which were very good. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! Thanks for such a wonderful experience!
