- Malcolm M17 contributionsDecided to do the guided tour on our second day in Yangon. The building is being refurbished and there isn't a large amount of things to see. However it was interesting and a good way to get a brief summary of the history since colonial times.Written March 23, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TravellerMelbourne, Australia15,759 contributionsThis building was so well built that it still looks very impressive after so many years and will probably last forever. The architecture is worthy of admiration.Written April 24, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- kowie55Chennai (Madras), India646 contributionsThe Central Telegraphic Office is a little distance from the Maha Bandula Park. It is an impressive British Colonial building and reminds you of the days of the British Raj, There isn't too much activity inside. The interiors are still cool because of the high ceiling, and old electric fans. They have preserved some old telegraph and telefax machines ( a whole generation has grown up without seeing these, but it is nostalgic to people of my times) and there is a bright red Post Box taking us to the times of "snail-mail"Written January 1, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Robert ORotterdam, The Netherlands3,933 contributionsAccording to the Yangon City Heritage list Customs House was built in 1915. John Begg from Scottland, responsible for the design of so many other British colonial buildings was the architect.
A rather impressive red brick building with a short tower above its grand entrance.at the Strand. Column forms are used for a decorative purpose. Note the two-faced bracketed clock. Customs are still using the building, perhaps because of its ideal location close to the port.Written December 27, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. One of the most secure buildings on the list since colonial times. Many of these houses were built by colonialists with government offices. It is difficult to comprehend why some are so well cared for while others are damaged. Well-planned and well-maintained operations can save buildings that need to be restored for future generations to be saved.Written December 25, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LeonhknyHong Kong, China14,495 contributionsIt is quite difficult to imagine the past opulence of this stately building. The former Yangon Division Court is now a ruin with little care or attention given. Urgent repair work needed.Written September 7, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Andy FDevizes, UK1,240 contributionsWorth popping your head inside, to see what's left of a fine colonial building - the windows, roof, counters etc. There's also a collection of old equipment - telegraph, telex, etc and an old postbox.Written November 28, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
