What travelers are saying
- Dave_B_WirralGreasby, UK120 contributionsA 30 euro trip up and down starting at the trassxpress cable car, then an undulating signposted hike in the snow approx 1hr to Sonnkogel before a return to the Schimenhohebahn cable car.
Great views along the way, some steepish bits that we benefitted with our walking poles (the slope parts added to the fun).Written February 4, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The views from the top are exceptional and you can even get all the way to the top without paying for any cable cars with the summer card. This is a must do on a clear weather day so you can truly appreciate the views!Written August 11, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - shazzahutchCork, Ireland73 contributionsAs I'm not a ski fan, I walked around the lake. Forget the east side, too many houses have lake frontage so not too many viewing points. The north, south and west side are worth walking along. Did think the best way to experience the lake is to be in it or on it ! I will venture into it before I leave !Written January 2, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

The show is at dusk so the time does vary, but the timing each week is displayed in hotels.Written June 4, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Rashid FAlpharetta, GA64 contributionsZell am See is a picturesque town in Austria at the foothill of the High Tauern mountain range that includes Grossglockner, the highest peak in Eastern Alps. The town as well as neighboring Kaprun offers stunning view of lake Zell with the Alpa as a backdrop.
We drove to Thumersbach park which offers free parking, lovely trail and many photo opportunities of the scenic landscape. Kayak rental and boat rides to Kaprun and Zell am See center are available from the park's boating dock.
Zell Am See is about 40mins drive from Bad Gastein and about 90mins from Salzburg. It's also very close to the High Alpine Road, one of Europe's top scenic mountain drive to the Kaiser Franz Joseph viewpoint of Grossglockner, the glacier and hundreds of peaks of the Eastern Alps.Written October 30, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There is access to the lake at other points around its periphery for water sports although private properties dominate along considerable stretches so denying access. A steamer ride across the lake from Zell am See takes you to a lakeside recreational facility for bathing and sun-bathingWritten August 7, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - carlosmpRio de Janeiro, RJ4,641 contributionsFine moubtain and snow, good ski instructors, nice slopes. However, at this time, some restauration points, especially at the base, closed. All of them at the base! For beginners, one has to come down to have some water! Unacceptable!Written February 25, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Rosie C5 contributionsWent up by cable car walked the high altitude promenade which is fairly flat and then down again by cable car. This pretty chapel is near the summit. - Swell TravellerMelbourne, Australia3,769 contributionsThis church is a roman type setting with gothic interior and is surrounded by a range of monuments to commemorate fallen soldiers from WW2. This church is used regularly for weddings and christenings. It is an 11th century construction. Excellent place for choirs due to the acoustics. The local band has a space upstairs near the stunning organ and we were able to listen to them warming up for a christening when we were there. Around the corner is the Marien Kappelle. A small cute chapel to visit. It has a famous Madonna painting with 2 chairs to sit and reflect on. There is no entry charge for either.Written November 28, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
