What travelers are saying
- Angelo SHilliard, OH3,630 contributionsThis imposing stone structure perched on top of the highest point in Barga is the reward for a long climb from the front historical gate. As with moist Churches in Italy, the front of the Duomo is very plain, but their is a wide plaza in the front, and a small grassy area off to the south side that has a great panoramic view.
Inside, the church is very simple with a stone pulpit with the front pillars supported by two lions. The interesting thing is that the pulpit is only decorated on the sides that face the congregation. Simple wooden pews line the church with some more modern chairs in the choir area.Written December 8, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Car has to be parked on the parking spot near pizzeria "Zi-Meo". Then you have to walk up to the hill through the metal gate. This museum keeps a lot of things related to famous local poet Giovanni Pascoli.Written January 14, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - mjen235Barga, Italy36 contributionsIf, like me, you like to learn about the legends and folklore of an area this is the place to go. It's important that you know the traditions and history of La Befana. We went as adults but the real magic of the place is for children, especially every January 6th.Written September 3, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - NigelCheshire, UK1,148 contributionsA fantastic idea for Barga with its links to Scotland, this little immaculately kept phone box originating from the UK and actually made in Scotland by Carron is now a well used tiny library.
You can take books there which are no longer needed and you can pick one or two up as well.
It was given to the people of Barga by an Italian Family living in Edinburgh who enjoyed coming to the area on holiday.Written September 5, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It’s a pearl you definitely should discover!Written August 11, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

This small, out-of-the way church dedicated to the Annunciation is the "home" to two wooden statues. An imposing front is on a small piazza that is shared with a small restaurant. It is good for a visit when it is open, but it won't be a long one. It would be more interesting to attend a service here.Written December 8, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AnnenRoyElgin, UK3 contributionsThe name of this beautiful village is Sommacolonia not Semmacolonia!!! It is indeed a beautiful village a few short miles from Barga and well worth a visit. It is of interest for family of allied forces during WW2.Written August 8, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
