- Antonio.74Amsterdam, The Netherlands115 contributionsEvery time I am back in Gravina, visiting “Gravina Sotterranea” is a must. The rich history mixed with local legends make this place special. A special thanks to the super guide Mara, she has made the underground visit a trip trough the time.Written November 25, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - aa27Lausanne, Switzerland547 contributionsReally worth to see this house-museum very kindly shown by the owner, a grand-grand child (and an artist himself) of the first creator of the cola cola whistle, later diversified in funny different shapes and characters, for example representing nations, shown like in a museum in the house where 4 generation of artists lived, now set up nicely by the 5th generation! The story of what initially was a child toy, and became a symbol of the region, known and requested also abroad, was well described with the support of all the items in display, mostly family memorabilia. So nice to see the enthusiasm of a young man for keeping running such a fascinating family heritage.
You can also buy of course a lot of varieties of colorful whistles, a really nice souvenir.Written June 25, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We had the whole almost all to ourselves in many moments . Great place to see and wonder how people lived in ancient times.Written June 17, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - balmoralstampGoirle, The Netherlands36 contributionsWe found this pearl during our stay in Gravina in Puglia. I can’t believe that we were the only visitors…. We had a private tour that showed us beautiful rooms, dresses, ceramics, numismatics (coins) and the couch that was used in the James Bond film No Tine to Die).
Biggest surprise was the underground church with beautiful frescos
I think this is the best kept secret of Gravina….Written October 14, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - aa27Lausanne, Switzerland547 contributionsIt's quite a big church digged in the rock, with columns separating three altars, pity the frescos are quite in a bad state, barely visible. Beyond a gate, the sad remains of the numerous people murdered by the saraceni. A celebration is held there to remember them, once a year. The guide was very helpful and told us lots of interesting details on the place and history. You have to buy the tickets (just 3 euros) at the tourism office, and possibly wait a little bit for the guide in front of the church, if he's already guiding a previous group. The visit takes about 20 minutes.Written June 25, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Michal BMilan, Italy484 contributionsWhen you are at the Adriatic coast, definitely try to make a trip to Alta Murgia and beautiful cities around (especially Matera). It´s such a relax compared to coast zone full of tourists. But not only this makes the difference, it´s the nature itself which is quite impressive. It´s not so quaint like some national parks in the mountains, but it´s interesting, it´s very natural and it´s something you definitely don´t expect here. When you are in the summer around Bari or Lecce, everything is yellow or brown, here you see also so much green.
Unfortunately, also here you meet what´s typical for the South Italy - garbage put in the nature, but it´s rather limited compared to the surroundings of big coastal cities.
I guess that this place would take some popularity in the future, also thanks to Matera being the capital city of culture and I hope it will try to attract more tourists offering more possibilities for them, like biking tours etc.Written September 18, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Nice atmosphere in a great extensiveness full of colours and sounds of nature . Amazing , interesting and safe routes up and down the area are included in the visit suitable for children and adults. I will most definetly stay again with my grandson who really enjoys playing in such a special outdoor place. I strongly recommend to visit it .Written August 22, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
