This is for sure a must if you visit île de Noir Moutier.
Twice a day when the tide is low, the island is connected to mainland France.
We drove on this little road with the sea on either side and a whole bunch of sea birds and humans taking advantage of the food pickings the sea had uncovered.
What a fun drive and really cool experience!

Visited the blockhaus by ourselves, with no pre-arrangements. Little to see and ineed quite a bit of imagination. Clearly need a guide, as no buildings are open and very limited explanation provided. Disappointing as the buildings are clearly well preserved and interesting. The first and only tourist board (see photo) was very helpful.

Great little excursion, not massive but good for young children. Very warm inside to protect the butterflies so dress accordingly

The Jetee Jacobsen is a pedestrian way set in between the canal and the Marais du Mullenbourg. The Marais has many salt marshes where the locals produce the highly sought after Noirmoutier natural salt. The work is done by hand, as the Marais is a bird sanctuary. There are a few donkeys who act as silent "lawn mowers". As one walks along, there are many birds to watch depending on the season. It is lovely to see a few couples of ducks teaching their little ones ...

To experience the island by bicycle is an absolute must!
Beautiful little villages, sleepy or lively, each of them special in their own way!

We were walking around town and found this charming church, complete with an atmospheric small, candlelit crypt.

A nice castle in the middle of the town. Not loads to do for English speaking children- they enjoyed climbing to the top but quite a lot of money just for that. In an out in less than an hour

There are many salt marshes on the island but we just stumbled on this one and it was interesting to watch the people working and collecting the salt. The owner established themselves here since 1996 and they produce coarse salt and fleur de sel (plain and flavored). They have a small shop there and sell their fresh products on site.
