Travelers' Choice
Masseria San Domenico is situated 500 metres from the Adriatic Sea and housed in a whitewashed, XVth century watch-tower set against a backdrop of olive groves, orchards and Apulian seascapes. An impressive free-form seawater pool flows its way through the grounds and the 2 exclusive beaches (one sandy one rocky) allows guests to soak up some sun without the crowds. The SPA and Thalasso centre relies on the same salty seawater to fuel thalassotherapy and balneotherapy-focused offerings, in addition to providing a full menu of massages, facials and body treatments. The more actives can tee-off at the 18-hole golf course overlooking the Adriatic or burn off calories in the gym. To refuel, dinners don't get more romantic than at San Domenico Restaurant, with its 18th-century vaulted ceiling, or at La Nassa, a very fine dining seafood restaurant on the water edge. At the end of the day, elegantly furnished rooms and suites make a restful sanctuary with rich fabrics, colours and textures

We had dinner (did not stay overnight) at this Masseria and it was disappointing. The food was not very good, there was a mixed up with what we had ordered and the service was average and seemed uninterested. The dining room is formal and lacks personal touch. The dinner was expensive and far from memorable. On the whole a disappointing experience.

The place is just stunning, with lovely gardens, immense olive groves, the biggest and most beautiful swimming pool I've ever seen et cetera. The staff is extraordinarily competent and pleasant. They know exactly who you are and what you want. For example, we organised a wine-tasting for our group of nine, and the staff came up with all kinds of brilliant ideas to make it a great success. Why then serve lousy food? If you keep the high season menu during off-season - we were there in October - you obviously cannot keep up the same standards. For example, several of us took a fish dish with flakes of almond. It was dry, had little taste nor flavour, and had clearly come straight out of the freezer. Nevertheless, I managed to eat almost half my portion. For starters, some of us had a seafood dish with mussels, clams, croutons etc. For some reason, virtually all the shells were empty, with the poor animals lying at the bottom of the huge dish. The croutons was the best part. Admittedly, some of us were quite pleased with their food. Another surprising thing, the furniture. Some of it was of the darkish and heavy kind, typical for the late 19th century in Italy. Very boring. The rest of the furniture was more modern but insignificant.

I would have given our stay at San Domenico a 5 star rating, but for our experience on our final day. We were told that we had to leave the Hotel and it’s environs by 12 midday because someone had booked out the entire complex! No-one gave us an inkling of this when we booked our stay, nor were we advised about it by email before our visit. Only because my husband called Reception the day before our departure to ask if we could hang onto our room a little longer, were we given this piece of news. Our flight back to London was 8.30pm and we assumed we would be able to use the facilities at the Spa to shower and change before our departure. The answer was a definite NO!!! Profuse apologies were somewhat irrelevant. However, our stay before all this was wonderful, although the Buffet lunch every day was a bit tedious. The room, our little patio and the Hotel itself are exceptional. Shame that the holiday ended on a sour note.

The hotel was very beautiful with very pretty immaculate gardens . The pool was of a good temperature so pleasant to swim in . My husband loved the driving range and thought the course albeit 9 holes was challenging ! We went to the bar in the evenings and listened to Carmello a larger than life pianist and singer , who was very entertaining ! Every member of staff we came in contact with were welcoming , friendly , helpful so customer service was truly excellent .

This hotel has the most beautiful grounds of any hotel I have ever seen. The rooms were beautifully appointed and extremely comfortable. The staff in the Ristorante and Bar were outstanding, professional and accommodating. This is a jewel of a place and really hope that we make it back there again and again.

Hard to fault, excellent service, great food including a wonderful breakfast buffet and a fabulous friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful room and the peace and tranquility of the property was wonderful and a well equipped beach club area only 2km away. Our only problem, the weather could have been a little kinder

Absolutely incredible experience at this wonderful hotel. The property is expansive and well maintained. Take advantage of the free bikes and explore the property or ride to the beach club, just a short distance away. Rooms are spacious and very comfortable with typical Italian country villa style furniture. Staff is attentive, friendly and professional. The pool area is a an absolute oasis of beauty and calm. The private beach club has food and drink service and all sun beds boast a stunning view of the water. We had meals at the pool, beach club, room service and the hotel restaurant....all were quite good. We had our own car however the hotel did arrange car service for us on some nights. Seemed easy to obtain a car service or taxi on relatively short notice. From the hotel, we visited Polignano a Mare, Alberobello and Monopoli. Overall, an incredible stay. Highly recommend. We cannot wait to return.

For a 5 star hotel, it gives you all the expected luxury for its category. Awesome breakfast and a dream swimming pool where the highlights of the trip. The room was a classic suite , its cheapest category. But it doesn’t fail to delivery a sense of a 5 star. Before i went, i read some reviews saying that was hard to go to the beach because it was a busy road, but it is an easy ride with a bike. There is a lot of bikers riding in this road so its not unusual for drives, that makes a safer path for the bikers. The region is very beautiful thus arid and hot. Its not a great destination for beach purposes, since all the beaches are rocky and the sea (Adriatic) isn’t as beautiful as Greece or amalfi coast. Furthermore the hotel infrastructure and staff are very helpful and kind. For a good deal price ir can be a good choice to know italy’s puglia region

Great resort very well situated from where you can visit the Puglia region. I suggest to rent a car if you want to visit or go out at night for dinner. We spent 6 nights at the resort. It has 2 pools and beach deck. Everyone his doing the impossible to please you. The only bad note was the quality of the water of one of the pools.

The entire experience was first class. The property, grounds, spa, pool areas and amenities, every single area is maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness and function. The beach club is simply sublime. Whatever we wanted was accommodated. If the menu didn’t suit us, they made sure to prepare us something that was appropriate and all with a willingness to please. My only comment is that accommodation of that standard and price should not be charging any extra for add ons at breakfast. The breakfast is lovely, but they charge extra for hot dishes. Seems a little petty when the accommodation is one of the pricier places in Puglia.
