Afternoon tea was nice. At the time of our visit they seemed very short staffed. We had a baby with us and were very disappointed to find out that there are no baby changing facilities so changing baby was quite difficult. We also asked about toilets for the disabled and were dismayed to find that there were no facilities for them either. Surely these should be in place, even coffee shops accommodate disabled and baby changing facilities.

We were a group of friends looking for a hotel where we could meet up. Coming in from various parts of the UK our main criteria were comfort, nice food, friendly service, convenience for touristy things. Briery Wood did not disappoint. In fact it exceeded expectations. The rooms are spacious and feel quite luxurious. Lots of little touches make it stand out. The dinner menu (included in our rate) was not restricted - and the food was fab. Beautifully presented and delicious. Bar well stocked and a great wine list. Breakfast was a stylish and plentiful too. And the staff went out of their way to make us welcome. I would go back in a heartbeat.

Having stayed at Briery Wood quite frequently over the years, this wonderful small hotel was the perfect choice to host a small luncheon for 22 of our family & friends to celebrate. The attention to detail, beautifully laid table, private dining and friendly well trained staff were all as expected. Prior to our arrival, we had arranged with Matthew all the details including a delicious small menu that we could preorder from in advance. All the details were confirmed promptly by email and the cost was exceptionally good value. Which is all good, but most importantly, outstanding food quality and service. Without exception all our guests were highly complimentary especially for the delicious roast beef sunday lunch and sea bass alternative. The starters & desserts were also outstanding, everything home made and beautifully presented. Afterwards we had the use of the adjoining lounge area with doors leading to the patio area, where remarkably the weather was stunning and sunny as it was on our actual wedding day 40 years previously. I couldn't fault any part of our event, and as a former hotelier, well used to organising weddings, conferences & events myself I was truly delighted. I hope this review encourages others to consider Briery Wood should you have a similar occasion (or wedding) to organise, as I am sure you would not be disappointed. A massive thank you to the small team that made our day so memorable and happy, we are truly grateful.

We had an overnight stay here for valentine's night. What a fantastic experience we had. Right from the moment we walked in the staff were fantastic. The hotel is great and the room was lovely. A special thank you to them for really going out of their way to look after my wife's dietary requirements. She really appreciated that and the food was amazing. The breakfast was top notch too! Overall a wonderful experience and we will definitely stay here again next time we visit the Lake District.

A nice relaxing hotel to stay at, very clean and the staff were excellent. Really big bed and nice toiletries in the bathroom. Bar and restaurant a little expensive but guess that’s normal for this type of hotel. Weather dreadful but I guess the Lake District didn’t get its name by being in a drought zone! Would happily stop there again.

Came for afternoon tea with a gift voucher. Great experience . We were pleasantly greeted on arrival and taken through to the lounge area and seated in two comfy chairs. The waiter bought us a selection of teas in for us to look at and make our choice. We loved the fact that the tea came with a timer to maximise the brew. The presentation of the food was excellent with the sandwiches presented in a book. A great afternoon of high quality food and service

Wow!! Enjoyed the most delicious afternoon tea we've had in such a long time, total vfm & every item of food was exceptionally made and tasted sublime. A wonderful mixture of sweet & savoury, giving you a cheeky taster of their scrumptious cooked offerings. Can't wait to return & we'll book to stay over next time as the staff were so friendly, attentive & lovely dogs are welcome. Thank you so much to Dan who made our visit so lovely x

This was our first visit here and it really is a hidden gem. The staff were incredibly helpful and couldnt do enough for us. The room was stunning, the bed was huge with the most softest pillows and comfy cushions, and was the best nights sleep i'd had in a long time. The cream tea and breakfast were fantastic and we will 100% be coming back here and would highly recommend and the fact they are dog friendly is an added bonus and have a dog menu to boot 🙂🐶
