I normally give people the benefit of the doubt and thought that maybe this manager is inexperienced or new.
BUT on my last day I left the “Please Refresh” sign on my door for the day (I needed fresh towels because the shower floods the floor so I used all my towels to wipe-up the water). When I returned that evening my room had not yet been attended to. I went downstairs to mention this to the manager (a different guy) - he was very short with me for some reason. He said that their cleaners were still busy and should be around shortly. I then asked to sit in their bar area to eat my takeout dinner while waiting for my room to be attended to, but he refused me entry saying that I could not bring my own food to the bar. I went back to my room to eat my dinner (expecting to be interrupted by cleaning staff). But I finished my meal without any cleaners coming to replace my shower towels. I went back down to reception and the rude manager this time said that there was an issue with a towel supplier so there was not much he could do. Frustrated, I went out for a walk - when I returned to my room I saw that someone had collected my wet towels and replaced them with a HAND TOWEL.
On the last morning of my stay I used a hand towel to dry myself after showering... I didn’t bother trying to mop up the flooded floor with that thing for them.
Clearly this is a hotel in disrepair and with disinterested ownership (or just poor management). If this is the case overall, I doubt this place will be in business much longer.
One of the many reasons I choose Travelodge each time I travel and definitely recommend it as well.
I checked in early and was surprised to be asked for an extra £10 to do this……Silly me for not reading the small print!
Free wIFi? For 30 minutes only then you pay another extra fee.
Breakfast? Nearly £10 per adult another extra fee.
What appeared to be a great deal was reminiscent of the ploys of Ryanair to squeeze extra cash out of the customer who originally chose to book as it was cost effective but sadly the reality was far from it.
If I was writing a book about my stay here it would be on the shelf titled NON FICTION under the genre of HORROR.
The carpet which had seen better days the light blue now the confusing colour of greige as years of grime testified.
The entire bedroom is in need of a serious refurbishment as was the bathroom.
The bathroom left a lot to be desired.
There are NO walk in showers for those who have a difficulty accessing the bath with a firmly fixed overhead shower.
The shower was at too high a height for me and despite my best efforts I could not get it to budge as it was firmly stuck in place.
I therefore chose to remove the shower from the cradle and showered as best I could.
I must add don’t bother washing your hair as this hotel does not provide a hairdrier so either pack your own or forget it.
It was difficult getting a good nights sleep in the quiet room I was allocated as it was very close to the railway tracks of Aberdeen Rail Station.
If this was the level of noise in a quiet room I hate to think about the rest of this hotel.
The trains thundering past made sleep difficult so I would advise earplugs to fellow guests.
I managed to snatch some sleep to be rudely awakened by the sound of repair work going on at 23:00 hours at night.
The constant noise of the drill pushed me to get dressed and go to reception to complain.
No change of room given.
Next morning I complained to the manageress who did not care saying it was a city centre hotel and noise was expected.
Fellow travellers you have been warned.
I would recommend booking breakfast early as it tends to get busy later on. I did find I occasionally had to wait to be seated as they seemed short staffed, and as you couldn’t serve yourself breakfast, I would recommend asking the staff for everything that you want at the start, as it’s hard to get their attention afterwards, and it did take a while to get sorted. There was a decent selection of cereals, croissants, toast, yogurts, fruit salad, juices and hot drinks. Cooked breakfasts were made to order by ticking a list, and vegetarian sausages were available. A condiment tray was brought to your table with your cutlery as well. My breakfast was complimentary so I’m not sure if it’s worth the full price.
My room itself was bigger than expected and was clean, with plenty of storage space. The bath is very shallow though so no good if you want a decent soak and I had to use a hand towel as a bath mat because these aren’t provided anymore. It could also do with charging points next to the bed. It did the job though and I suppose you get what you pay for. I didn’t hear much noise from outside but there were noisy kids staying in the same corridor as me and there was a lot of banging noises one night on my wall. Complementary tea and coffee facilities were provided and there was a decent choice of TV channels. The bed was comfortable and a fan was provided if you found the room too warm (I thought the room temperature was just right).
Overall, I’d probably stay again as the location and price was ideal.
Staff were very pleasant and the room itself was very spacious.
The noise outside can be a little off putting especially boy racers between 9pm-2am! But the bed was comfy and the shower was terrific so all in all for what we paid it was definitely value for money.
I'm afraid the Travelodge in Aberdeen was not to the standard of the other Travelodges we have stayed in. We were given room 402. The room was very musty and smelled badly of damp. The Hotel knew about this as they had left the window open to try and air it (to no avail I'm afraid). Also the carpet had been laid over a very uneven floor (settlement) which would certainly be a trip hazard for a disabled or elderly person. Since it was only for one night it wasn't worth asking to be moved. If you have to stay in this hotel please stay clear of this room or probably that whole section of the building.
