Grand Hotel Royal has earned a reputation for its exceptional location, with guests frequently applauding its proximity to attractions and picturesque sunsets. The hotel's amenities, including stunning views and lush gardens, along with spacious, clean rooms, contribute to its overall charm, despite occasional service hiccups. While reviews on value are polarized, the atmosphere's traditional luxury and spotless environment receive consistent praise. Although a few guests report noise issues, the professional and efficient staff, coupled with daily touches like chocolates, leave a lasting impression on many who stay.

Amazing staff, beautiful hotel! We had a spectacular time! Absolutely loved it! The views are awesome, service outstanding, concierge helped arranging tours, restaurant reservations and recommendations! We can’t thank the staff enough for making our family vacation one to remember!

Horrible service. Overcharged on the exchange rate. When we alerted the front desk of the problem, they said they would take care of it at checkout. At checkout they refused to correct the problem. They don't seem to care about unhappy customers, even after admitting their fault. In addition, some of the food at breakfast was spoiled. Very disappointing, especially for a 5 star hotel.

We'd booked the hotel for our pre and post wedding stay in Sorrento (10 days in total). It was a great decision... The location is stunning, with views overlooking the marina, the bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius. We were allocated a lovely room on the ground floor, with a terrace and direct access to the pool. The decor is beautiful, with bright colours, a very comfortable small sofa, a fabulous bed, and everything you would expect of a 5-star hotel, including an evening turn down service with delicious complimentary truffles :-) The staff are always polite, efficient and immaculately turned out. I would like to mention one lady in particular, Lorenza, who was a delight. Always smiling and so helpful throughout our stay. The breakfast in the beautiful dining room, was amazing too. Great cappuccino, lots of pastries, fresh fruit, cheese and meats, local specialities, Prosecco... and an egg 'station'. We were reluctant to leave...

Wonderful hotel perched on top of the cliffs with stunning views across the bay of Naples and Versuvius. Delightful staff, extensive balcony, swimming pool and gardens, plus a lift through the rocks down to a lower level terrace and bathing platform The breakfast spread is to die for and there is a formal restaurant for dinner. Only things which meant this was a 4 instead of 5, was the restaurant / bar down by the beach was closed and there wasn’t an informal place for dinner, for example with children, so needed to go out.

The Grand Hotel Royal was a great all-round experience. The staff are very welcoming, kind and thoughtful. We'd like to mention the waiters in particular, especially Rosario and Antonino. The hotel is full of very beautiful furniture in traditional inlaid wood styles particular to the area. And the view over the Bay of Naples towards Mount Vesuvius is iconic and peaceful.

Absolutely the finest hotel in Sorrento. Great hotel restaurant, accessibility to the pool. First class service. Rooms were spotless and later in the day the staff will come in and turn down your bed and leave a chocolate. Whenever we're back in Sorrento we're definitely staying here.

We stayed here about five years ago when it was a great hotel. Regrettably it’s not deserving of the five stars rating it has. It’s had a lick of paint over the last five years but I would guess that the harsh economic climate has meant a change in management at the top or a change in their business model. We stayed a fortnight in which time it became apparent that hotel guests were not the primary source of profit. There were seven weddings, taking up most of the terrace so that where we liked to sit was not available to us. We had to listen to loud music, lots of shouting, on one occasion fireworks at 23:30. But the real insult was that on the morning of the wedding they washed the terrace, but the day after the wedding they didn’t. They obviously thought the hotel guests were dirty! On arrival we were told that evening dining was at the terrace restaurant so booked a table. We hadn’t used this restaurant last time as the hotel’s main restaurant was very good. The two head waiters spent most of their time looking at their technology. The food arrived cold, and we saw from our room that the food came from the hotel’s kitchen through the garden with nothing covering it. Only when we walked out did a head water ask what was wrong! When we arrived we realised that the bathroom was tired. The shaving mirror was loose, the shower head was clogged and didn’t work well, both faults sorted when we complained, then the bathroom door started squeaking and then the washbasin tap.. it was clear that though the chamber maids did a great job no one in seniority spent any time in the room. Breakfast was great!! Though the heating level on the hot food storers could have been raised a bit! But the staff were top notch! Helpful, caring and quick to find solutions. It’s just the lack of detailed management that is so obvious. Guests and staff deserve better

This hotel is gorgeous, the room was lovely with an enormous balcony . The gardens ,pool and pontoon areas were lovely . All of the staff attentive ,professional and friendly. Breakfast was very good ,the location amazing just a short walk to Tasso square . There’s a very nice square opposite with nice cafes and close to the train station . Prepare your self if you go to Naples it was mental and took a little while to acclimatise after Sorrento . We took the train and hydrofoil to Naples .The circumversuviana is the better train service but less regular ,it stops at less stations and so is quicker .you ll need to get the express ticket which can also be used on the normal train . In Sorrento Take a walk to the fishing village marina grande and have a meal ,lovely setting . Try a bottle of lacryma Christi wine 😀 We went to Herculaneum rather than Pompeii, well worth it ,it’s more compact ,with shade .I felt I learnt more ,we had a tour with a group of six and really enjoyed ourselves

We booked this due to its location in Sorrento and that it was 5 star and felt it looked beautiful. Based on that criteria it's exactly that. But we found it lacking compared to a 4 star we stayed in earlier this year in Tenerife. Mostly the staff was pleasant but only a few seemed genuinely warm and welcoming. On arrival reception seemed off it, we noted several guests arrive and had a short tour around, we didn't get offered that, and later on when we sat outside for drinks, was told it was the wrong area by staff, which wouldn't of been a problem had we known previously. We had issues with maid service in our room, yes it cleaned daily and bedding changed, but we had to call reception for toilet rolls and face flannel to be given. The selection of food for breakfast was the usual, cold meats, fruits n cheeses, some hot items and lots of cake selections and cereal. Which was ok enough but felt more hot food choice would be nice, again compared to 4 star we felt it lacking. On our 7th and final day we was promised an early breakfast selection to take with us due to early flights, on arrival at reception this wasn't the case and we left empty stomachs and underwhelmed by the experience from staff again. So hence the low score, I wouldn't rate this a 5 star hotel, a 4 at a stretch compared to others we've stayed at.
