In late November,I stayed at this simple hotel for three nights. My simple room was comfortable. The breakfast was excellent(a fine omellette, plenty of fruit, croissants). The staff of this hotel was friendly and helpful. This hotel is very close to Ghent's Saint Peter Train Station. It is about a 15 minute walk (Citadel Park)to the delightful MSK Art Museum. This is not a fancy hotel, but my stay here was very pleasant.

I stayed just one night in this hotel mainly as I had an early train to catch the next day. My room was good, staff were very nice and kind - they prepared a very generous breakfast for me to take early the next day. Although not close to the old city centre, it is just a tram ride away. Compared to other hotels in Ghent, this was good value for money.

The main Gent Sint Pieters Train Station that is best to transit on to Brugge (Bruges) is not the closest to the center Old City of Gent. Nevertheless we wanted a close walk-luggage nice hotel so chose Hotel Castel. It isn't fancy but is fine for the location, rate and it is clean and functional. Beware if you have mobility issues. The hotel elevator stops between floors exiting to stairs half a flight to rooms up and down. The next door restaurant,The Rambler, was great. Most important for most visitors, if you want to get to the historic Old City, Take The Tram outfront. The hotel manager said it was farther than we would like for a round trip late in the afternoon and he was right...we tried walking and gave up without seeing Old City sights. Kudos to him with my apology for not "obeying".

I stayed for five nights. The hotel is clean, stuff very friendly and kind. There is also a restaurant - Indian and Nepalese - with most wonderful food! I have some allergies and the cook everyday was taking this into account. I recommend this place highly!

Arriving by train the hotel is conveniently close by to drop of your bags and about 13 minutes away from the city center by public transport. From the outside you can necer imagine that the rooms are spacious and modern. Looking at the other hotels in Ghent the Castel is a great place for an honest price.

The hotel is small and cosy and in a very convenient location for the station. It is about 20 minutes walk into the centre of town, about ten minutes from the two main art galleries and has a tram stop right nearby which gives access to the centre of town as well as other parts of Ghent. The rooms are clean and warm, there was an excellent shower and very comfortable beds. The rooms are a decent size and although they are a bit lacking in cupboard space for a longer stay -we were there a week- there is a lot provided including hair-dryer, fridge, kettle, safe, television, alarm clock and toiletries including body lotion. There is also free WiFi The breakfast choice was very reasonable and everything was freshly cooked and good quality. The real asset of this hotel is that all the staff are very friendly and do everything they can to make you comfortable.

My room was large and very clean and had a good-sized bathroom with shower and bath. I appreciated being able to control the room heating as the outside temperature varied a lot during my stay (February). WiFi worked well and is free. The hotel is very near Ghent railway station so handy for people arriving by train. This means, however, that it is 2km from the city centre. The best way to get there is tram number 1 (number 2 also goes there but less direct). Despite what one reviewer has said, the tram is not free! You buy a ticket from a machine at the stop or(at a higher price) from the driver. The machine at the tram stop for route 1 at the railway station sells single-ride, 1 Day, 3 Day, and 5 Day tickets. The day tickets are valid on all De Lijn trams and buses, not just in Ghent but throughout Flanders including Bruges, Antwerp and Ostend. The last tram back from the city is early - at 2310 although there are a few night buses up until 0100, but Ghent seems to close down early anyway. Breakfast at the hotel is ok. The usual buffet of cereals, bread, cheese and cooked meats. There was bacon, egg and sausage available but it didn't look very attractive and I never saw anyone choose it. The hotel restaurant offers mainly Asian food and the meal I had was very good. A specialist beer bar is advertised at the hotel, but I didn't see any sign of it. Perhaps it's just well hidden? The only slight problem is that some rooms can only be accessed via a separate door from the street and this involves a short walk from reception. There was some slight noise from trams, traffic and street cleaners in the mornings and street noise generally might be a problem in summer as there is no air conditioning other than opening a window. It wasn't an issue in February though. I would stay there again.

Brussels was full (summit and protest) so I caught the train to Gent. This place is on the opposite side of the square to the main station and offers warm, comfortable and clean accommodation. I was in time for a meal downstairs, but skipped it. I also missed breakfast as I had to be in Brussels quite early. I have never seen such small toiletries! The service on the front desk was friendly. If you have a room at the front in the Summer, you might want some earplugs.

Very good and so clean. Just beside Sint Pieter station and in front of the tram which can take you to the center in 15 minutes, so the location is amazing. Also the room has everything you need: kettle, refrigerator, safe .. etc

Friendly, polite and helpful staff. Booked quiet room but had room on front of hotel with trams and traffic near railway station. They were unable to change this to a cooler (out of sun) and quieter room at the back as these were reserved for families. It was very hot and humid with hungry mosquitos so had to close the window to keep these out and reduce noise, hence a restless night despite a very comfortable bed. The hotel was very clean and breakfast was good albeit I didn't appreciate the 'piped' music. With air conditioning, this hotel could be very good.
