Hotel da Oliveira is the most important charming hotel in Guimarães. The project, developed by the interior designer Paulo Lobo, has transformed an old Pousada de Portugal in a contemporary hotel. Thanks to its discreet luxury and its location in the heart of the historic city centre, this hotel is the perfect place for those who want to discover culture and entertainment in Guimarães. The Hotel da Oliveira is a sophisticated 4stars hotel, surrounded by History, offering a personalized quality service, and where all guests will be welcomed in a refined atmosphere, with the typical intimacy of a private house.

The location is simply unbeatable and the hotel premises very good. Staff is excellent and very friendly and always willing to help. Rooms are good size, wifi works well, beds are comfortable and bathroom reasonably comfortable. So why only 4 out of 5? First, the hotel overall is dark - in my view not enough lights, especially in the bathroom. With the standard rooms you really don’t have a view to anything (just a brick wall). Parking is 200 meters away which did not bother us but if you’re over 55 that could be an issue, especially with luggage. They did help us with our luggage but they do not have a luggage trolley which would make things a lot easier. And finally breakfast - the breakfast is a quality breakfast but its a very limited option of items. The true rating for me would be a 4.3 / 4.4. Still a very recommended hotel. I would stay there again.

We had a great experience at the hotel. The staff could not have been nicer or more helpful. The hotel is located in the heart of the historic village and also has an excellent restaurant, which also serves the morning breakfast. We had a comfortable bed and modern room during our one-night stay. The front staff and the restaurant were exceptional during the stay and one incident where we had a fall and needed some special attention.

Can’t recommend this hotel enough. Its location is perfect and in the heart of the old medieval town close to the historic castle and palace Duques de Braganca which can be reached by a short walk. Numerous bars and restaurants nearby in the pretty squares/courtyards the hotel sits between as well as the hotels own a la carte restaurant where we enjoyed their delicious version of fish and chips. What makes this hotel special is the care and attention of the staff. We had originally checked into another hotel which fell short of our expectations and checked out and found ourselves checking into this hotel around 11:00 pm and feeling very grateful they had a room free! The staff could not have made us more welcome keeping the kitchen open so we could eat having not eaten all day travelling and arranging taxis for our daily excursions/airport. Nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were very comfortable and clean with contemporary finishings, air conditioning and we enjoyed our juliette balcony looking out over one of the narrow medieval streets. We enjoyed a lovely breakfast every morning outside overlooking the pretty square. The only thing I would change is the bath which was difficult to drain due to the shower screen in the way. If you are visiting Guimarães then this is the hotel to book and also a very easy drive to Braga around 25 mins by taxi. We ate a delicious lunch in Cafe A Brasileira in Braga and dinner in Amute found in the adjoining square was in Guimarães which we highly recommend too.

Excellent hospitality. Very quiet and comfortable bed. It's perfectly located in a quiet area near many wonderful restaurants, including their own. I highly recommend. My husband and I started two nights here and would definitely return.

The hotel location is perfect, near sites and restaurants. The rooms are very spacious. The staff is extremely attentive and helpful. I cannot give the hotel 5 stars for one reason which may seem trivial to some, but the hotel is extremely dark with poor lighting. I appreciate the energy conservation measures, but it was impossible to get enough light in the room to read or in the bathroom to put on makeup. The halls were very dark as well and felt a little dangerous as I was traveling with someone who has vision issues which are made worse by poor lighting. Overhead motion detection lighting in the halls would be a big plus.

Delightful hotel with comfortable rooms, excellent bathroom, attentive staff and a superb restaurant. The rooms are modern and beautifully decorated, the beds are extremely comfortable and a reading light is provided as well as the bedside lamps. The restaurant is quite outstanding.

We visited in late October and stayed for two nights and wish we had booked a third. Our room overlooked the square which was busy but not too busy with tourists. The square had all the charm one wants from a medieval city. The room was ample compared to other hotels on this trip. The staff were friendly and helpful. And find time to eat at their restaurant. Only complaint is the room had no place to plug in a hairdryer with a mirror.

We happened upon the Hotel da Oliveira (HOOL) by chance and were so impressed that we changed our plans and stayed there for the duration of our vacation. HOOL is located at the centre of everything in Guimaraes. Our room overlooked the historic square Largo da Oliveira. All historic attractions are within walking distance of the hotel. The staff could not have been more helpful in their efforts to make us comfortable, answer questions and assist personally with any issues which otherwise may have complicated our trip. It is likely that Ernesto will find you if you do not find him. Marinha and Jessica will welcome you upon arrival and remain at your service throughout your stay. The restaurant offers an excellent breakfast and Michelin starred service at lunch and dinner. Don’t miss coffee in the Anonymous Library (to your right from reception) and walk 2 minutes for pastry to Divina Grula a few doors down on Rua de Santa Maria. This beautiful boutique hotel was easily the highlight of our trip.

This hotel has a perfect location right around the corner from Oliveira Square with a lovely church, lots of cafes, and shops in the historic center. The staff was very helpful and friendly, our room was lovely and comfortable. Reading some of the previous reviews makes me wonder if they were at the same hotel we were?? The breakfast (both the breakfast room and the food) was great!! We really enjoyed our stay here and the town of Guimaraes.

Hotel da Oliveira advertises on their own website that their junior suites offer a view of Guimaraes' beautiful square where e.g., Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Oliveira, is situated (cf. screenshot). We deliberately booked a junior suite for this view directly via the official link on their website. When we arrived, they first gave us the key to a room with indeed a view of this square - but it was already occupied by another guest (we saw their luggage). When we notified the reception, they gave us another room with no view at all. When we complained about the lack of the advertised view, they told us not every junior suite has a view. This is either false advertisement on the website or a lie in the face of the customer. When you promise something to your customers and you overbook your hotel, you have to be prepared to either offer an upgrade to satisfy your customer or, if no better or equal room is available, you reduce the price to make your customer less angry. Hotel da Oliveira did none of those things, we had to pay full junior suite price for a room of significantly lower quality. Don't book a room in this untrustworthy hotel.
