We spent one week at the San Remo (july 2023). How to begin ? I’ll start with the positive : wifi, air conditioning (nicely silent) and tv worked perfectly, the shower too (even if a bit out of date). Cleaning ladies come every day, and the beds were made, the sheets and towels changed every 2 days. The area is nice : 5 mn walk to the nice Kastella beach, followed by the Makenzie beach, 20 mn walk by the sea to get to the town of Larnaca, bus station and marina 1/2hr. Plenty of cafes and restaurants, but quiet enough at night. The hotel has a nice (with a « bubbling » liner) swimming pool (strictly no shower nor feet washing basin though. Probably a luxury for 4 stars hotels). And we didn’t encounter any bugs. The staff was welcoming, pleasant, and very relaxed. I want to thank everybody for their hard work and, for most of them, doing their best in this sort of derelict environment. I guess it’s not very agreeable for them too, and i don’t dare imagine the level of their retribution. I know it’s not enough. Now for the negative. See pics : 1st surprise on the corridor. Why keep this ruined carpet and sofa ? It’s disgusting. It’s not a problem of cost, it’s a problem of nobody doing what has to be done, ie getting rid of this old dirty rug. 2Nd surprise, nice cupboard. I don’t intend to repair it. But i think it might cost nothing to mend it. 3Rd surprise the balcony. Broken glass, old (very) rusted wire hanging miserably, cigarettes burnt chairs (did i pay to get here??). Dust by the matress. Bedspreads that were initially a creamy white, now with yellowish stains everywhere (never wanted to use it). You know, they probably should be bought brand new every, say, more than 10 years. Lamp barely hanging by the wall (yes, nice view to the wires behind). Black dirt on the tables by the swimming pool. I’d say one cleaning per week would do the job. Of course the black mould on the bathroom sink seal had to be expected. Don’t look for any fruit, canned of fresh, for breakfast. I dare say a 2 stars could provide some sort of mixed fruit salad maybe ? Hello, this is Greece. peaches, watermelons and lots of others do grow there. And bananas, apples, canned whatever are not such a luxury. The pics i got from Expedia described some simple, but clean, rooms, and that’s why we chose San Remo. Those pics are lies. There is probably one clean room somewhere, for the pics. Big contrast to ours. Piss-take ! If we had had the first indication of this kind of state, we would never have chosen the San Remo. The staff was nice and welcoming, but i’m sorry not always so efficient. Our keys got lost (for 15 minutes fortunately), dutifully dropped off at the reception one afternoon, but « gone » when we were back. Who takes care of the rooms keys ? Did someone take ours for a little visit to our suitcases in the room ? It did resolve nicely (nothing happened, a customer just had taken our keys by mistake), but still. You wonder. And now for the icing on the cake. 2 days before departure, i asked to the reception if they had received our airport transfer email confirmation. Answer : nothing. The next day, i ask again. « Nothing ». I myself send an email to the transfer society (but receives nothing). I again ask the reception, the evening before we leave. « Nothing ». Departure in the morning. Having received 0 confirmation from nobody, we estimate the time of departure, and are ready in the hall. After 20 minutes, nothing. And that’s when we hear that « yes, a guy from transfer was here, he asked for another room number ». Glad the other tourists got their transfer, but i guess i thought having asked to the reception for 2 days, they might have reacted and told they guy that those, too, (other room number », are waiting for their transfer. We were in the hall, the receptions guys were in the hall, and the airport guy was there too (looking for 4 persons, 2 of them being us). And then he was gone, and we waited (and got a taxi...) To conclude, sorry to all but it had to be said. No doubt once some works and refreshing are done, the San Remo will at last be the really nice place it could be. Meanwhile, someone is managing this place wrongly.…
