Relais Victoria has a nice swimming pool in the middle of nature. The breakfast was OK, but it was served in a dark room in the back of the villa. That's it for the "pro's", now the "cons". We booked two rooms through booking.com. The hotel only accepts guests over 16 years old. The first room was a normal two person bedroom. The other room was advertised as ideal for 3 adults. Upon arrival we were lead to our rooms on the first floor of the building. We were immidiatly dissapointed by the three person bedroom. It had a large double bed and something that looked a bit like a lounger. It clearly wasn't fit for someone over 16... The "bed" was only 75 centimetres wide (not 90 as said on booking.com) and was really thin. We asked the host for a solution, but she became rude. She told her daughter would even sleep in the bed. We stayed for a few nights, but the person sleeping in that bed couldn't sleep and his ribs started hurting because of the bad quality. Right after we told her we were going to check out, she turned off the wifi so we couldn't look for other hotels/b&b's to stay. She was rude, and kept singing which was rather strange. We also had to pay for an extra day as cancelation fee. The hostess can't handle people who have any complaints. The wifi in general doesn't work properly. Besides the bad wifi, there's no cellphone signal anywhere so you can't use 4G, or make a phonecall. The Coca-cola can in our minibar (which costs 3 euro's) was expired since march 2018. There's no airconditioning, so prepare for hot nights in summer. You need a car, because you're no where near restaurants and Lucca is 20 minutes away (or a two-hour walk). I do not recommed this unless you want to pay a lot for a cheap room. There are plenty of other beautiful places which offer much more for less.

We went to Lucca for a friend’s Wedding. We booked this hotel because from the pictures it seemed a real paradise, but got there to find out it was more like hell!!. It is by the way 20’ away from lucca with no food or cellphone signal around. 30€ taxi fair to lucca. Facts: -Having just arrived to Lucca I called the hotel and asked the owner to please give me another number or advice as on how to get to the hotel. (No taxis easy to find), and to please tell me more or less the price of the ride. His reply was a very rude “how would I know, I’m not a taxi driver”. Hell unleashed there.. -When we finally arrived to hotel, hungry and tired, he tells us that it is a B&B and therefore no possibility of any kind of food in the evening. (180€ B&B!!!) He suggested we went back to Lucca to eat!!. I asked if perhaps he had some bread or fruit, willing to pay of course. (If there is a breakfast they probably have bread). And he said “NO,we do not have anything”. - I discussed with my boyfriend the possibility of moving to another hotel because it had the feeling of hotel California!!!. So I called reception and no one was there. I therefore cancelled the second night with booking. It is a right booking gives you. It has a fee of course. - Next early morning we go down to explain and check out with them and they say it is not possible. That we should pay everything including the cancellation fee. I explained that we had the right to cancel the second night and only pay the first night and the fee. They were rude so I called booking. Booking agreed with me. - Breakfast was the poorest thing!. Only cereals, bread and marmelade. We had a couple of sausage slices after begging. - Finally we check out and I realize they had hand made a receipt with check out date a day after. I asked the lady to please make a new one with correct dates as a proof to booking in case there was any problems after to which she reacted in the most violent way!!!. She threatened to call the police and started yelling to the point even her husband was scared!. I asked her to Please calm Down and give me The right invoice. That it was illegal to hand make an invoice with wrong information. The man did it finally and we left thinking to Ourselves: We need to write this down, it is the right thing to do. For the same price we stayed at a real amazing paradise in Lucca with smiley and professional staff who love their job and respect their clients.

We stayed here for 2 nights whilst attending a wedding nearby in July. What a lovely little B and B. Pros: Very clean and well maintained. Beautiful gardens and pool area. Pool itself very clean and inviting. Lovely to swim in. Very peaceful setting. Spacious bedroom and bathroom area. Excellent hospitality from Anna. Very personal (always called you by name) and helpful. Very good continental breakfast, including home-made jams and cakes made by Anna. We asked for lunch one day and Anna provided a delicious spread of local meats, cheeses, salad etc. Perfect for what we wanted. Cons: Wifi a bit "hit and miss" at times. Air conditioning would have helped on a night, as it is very hot in the middle of summer (we knew there wasn't any when we booked, so it didn't bother us too much).

We got off to a bad start as although my husband had seen Gaetano in the morning and dropped off our luggage and he knew who we were and therefore which room we were in, we had not checked in properly with passports. We then went into Siena with friends as it was a long journey and didn't get to B&B until about 11.30 pm. Our luggage was in the luggage room and not in our room and Anna was very rude and angry. She showed us to our room and it was opposite the luggage room and very dark and dingy. No cover for the two tiny windows in bedroom and bathroom apart from a net curtain. The lighting was terrible. We are in our 70's and apologised profusely but to no avail. They then left the premises. We were told we had to be at breakfast between 9 - 10. On the breakfast table there were 2 croissants and about 6 rolls and jams. Also only a few apples. No cold milk supplied with tea. Also no phone signal. We couldn't make any arrangements. Although the pool had been cleaned a few days before (we had been told by previous guests they had to request this) the loungers were covered in leaves and it didn't look ready for guests. I had wanted a relaxing day as had been nearby at our daughter's wedding and we were very tired. You definitely need your own transport. The fare into Lucca was 30 euros even though it is only about 6 miles. We asked the owner to call us a cab and checked straight out after breakfast. We paid for 3 days although we only stayed one night. Went straight back to Lucca. You will save money and time by staying in Lucca.

Unable to find anywhere to stay overnight in overcrowded Lucca, we followed signs out of town to the Relais Victoria and were delighted by what we found. An attractive old farmhouse on the road towards Camaiore, which has been lovingly restored by Anna and Gaetano over a sixteen year period, with beautifully tended gardens and tasteful rooms named for their children. Although this is a b & b, Anna was happy to rustle up an alfresco salad, charcuterie and rigatone ragu dinner, and Gaetano produced some thoroughly delicious local wines for us to try. Breakfast included Anna's scrumptious homemade pear jam. All very tranquil and verdant, and the owners could not have been more hospitable.

just back from staying here for 6 days stayed with a group of friends - one of the couples was getting married nearby and had stayed there before would totally agree with d_quixote good points - lovely restored house and very clean tea making facilities but rarely topped up with teabags when the room is cleaned and have to go and ask for some - no milk provided unless you ask for it. teacups had handles which were too small to hold properly small fridge bathroom ample - no bidet. shower was not very powerful and took a few seconds to warm up - adequate bad points - no AC - one fan provided and the room becomes very hot with the windows closed - nightmare in august tiny tv on the wall with a few channels in italian things moved when the room was cleaned and not put back we also had smokers outside our window but a few choice words of annoyance from my husband and they moved away no phone signal and wifi incredibly poor definitely need to hire a car as public transport very rare and taxis very expensive to get into lucca 25 euros each way. the couple did not know much about what services were available for their guests and not very helpful breakfast very simple and continental. only hot thing was boiled eggs and no offer of any other cooked food except coffee. anna did make her own jams and cake no restaurants or shops nearby to buy anything the night we got there we decided to have a nap. when we woke up we were lucky to bump into the couple who run the b and b and were told the house was empty. they were on their way out. when we asked where we could find somewhere to eat they told us there was a pizzeria 3km away and offered to call us a taxi.they couldn't wait to get out of the door fast enough. anna failed to let the taxi driver know the details and he started to take us to lucca. we noticed and told him to drop us off at a local takeaway. when we ordered a taxi to take us back we had to pay the taxi fare from the centre of lucca! 30 euros. not happy!! the next day we decided to rent a car but due to the awful wifi we couldn't get one until the following day. parking is free outside the b and b we were sitting downstairs and anna came down and told my friend (in italian) that she couldn't find a towel in our room - implying we had taken it!!!! that was the last straw for my husband and he marched upstairs and showed her where it was - very obviously in the room - no apology. we decided to move hotels but were told we would have to pay the full 6 days we had booked - we decided to stay for my friend who was getting married and get the car instead. one of the other couples had lunch there but it was very expensive. one day our friends ( who were getting married) brought back some lunch from the supermarket for us to eat outside and was told by the husband that "picnic not possible" and started to take the food away! the other couples had similar complaints you only see the owners at breakfast really and very rarely through the day in summary nice house but the couple who run it are not very helpful its too far from lucca and anything and if you want to leave the building- YOU WILL NEED A CAR! we stuck it out for our friends but would not recommend this b and b. for 120 euros a night it is definitely not worth it. we did have a discount at 100 euros as we had block booked but even this was too much. the lack of amenities and unhelpful staff really brought it down

Response from Anna D, Proprietario at Relais Victoria
Responded Sep 7, 2015
This couple is not serene and attitude quarrelsome who have also had with the taxi driver. The couple who booked them had been with us the previous year and were so good that they even decided to come and get married in Lucca and get out of newlyweds from our house and this was a great honor and pleasure for us . They themselves have witnessed negative attitudes of this couple. The lies that listed not worth answering. Your recebnsione remains a "white fly" and speaks for itself.

Pros: 1) Quiet in the evening, but the hotel is near a road, so noise is traffic dependent 2) Clean, albeit Spartan rooms 3) Pool 4) Wi-Fi that works reasonably well. 5) Hilly, forested locale 6) Staff who are willing to assist with logistics such as after-hours deliveries Cons: 1) You are 6 miles from Lucca, and there is no easy public transportation. I would not recommend staying here if you don't have a car. 2) The staff do not offer full details on the services offered. (ie. When asked, yes the pool is available. Only when you attempt to go down to the pool at 7:30pm are you told that the pool closes at 7pm, despite this being during the long June summer nights. 3) The restaurants close early outside of the city, and the offerings at Relais Victoria are limited. Our well-meaning check-in person offered to make us something simple, like a frittata, for dinner since his cooking skills were limited. 4) The owners and/or guests are laughing and smoking under our window. Great for them but noisy & smokey for us. We closed the windows. 5) When you close the windows, there is no A/C, so the room swelters. 6) There is a wall-mounted television that is about the size of a large laptop screen. It is mounted about 7 ft up the wall. When turned on, it nicely displays the words "no signal" on the screen. 7) There is a large German Shepherd on the premises to watch you in case you feel like wandering. Fortunately, no barking so far, & it is in a cage.

I booked Relais Victoria as a relaxing stay as the last part of our Tuscany holiday. The farmhouse and pool are lovely but are actually on the main road which I hadn't grasped properly. The owners are really friendly and our room was good, except that there was no air conditioning. We had already spent two days in Lucca so were happy to stay at the Relais, but without a car we did feel quite trapped. Anna cooked us a lovely dinner outside (you can request lunch and dinner) which was great, but added up to be a little more expensive than we would have liked. Overall, it's a lovely place but you do need a car to get out occasionally or even just to buy supplies like snacks or water. The wifi also didn't work at all but that wasn't too much of an issue for us.

I was so excited to stay at this lovely home outside of Lucca. The hostess picked us up from the train station and responded to my various emails promptly. This is a perfect place to stay if you are a seasoned independent traveler. You should have a car. It would be best if you traveled to nearby places for day trips ie: Borgo a Mozzano or Barga. It was a 2.5 kilometer walk to the bus stop. It was only 2.50 Euro to take the bus into Lucca. Taking a taxi home nightly was 20 to 25 euros, but Lucca is best seen on foot. The croissants at breakfast very exceptionally good. Having a hot pot in the room was a plus for me since I'm a tea drinker. The hostess gave us very good information about good restaurants in Lucca and how best to drive to Bargo and Barga. The only time you see the host and hostess is in the morning at breakfast. This is why it is best if you are independent travelers.

We spent four wonderful days in the Relais Victoria. It is a beautiful place, a gorgeous tuscan house in a wonderful green landscape. The house is lovely decorated in every detail. The greatest experience are the hosts - Anna and Gaetano, two really lovely people who care a lot and do everything to make your stay unforgetable. Thank you so much for our great vacation - we will be back! Julia & Franz
