The location is perfect if you want to go to Hévíz lake, a 2-min walk. Food is OK but nothing special. The staff is very slow and not too helpful, they always seemed grumpy. There is a bar where you can have a drink if you are lucky. We weren't because the receptionist saidt here was nobody to serve us. Thank you. The next day we got a coffee which was horrible so I left it there.I complained about it and the waiter said I was right, the coffee tasted pretty bad. I was wondering how he knew about the bad taste of MY coffee... So it was OK because we spent the minimum in the hotel

Hévíz (literally: "Hot Water") is a spa town, about 8 km from the SW corner of Lake Balaton. It is a haven for people with rheumatism and a host of other illnesses that the town's hot springs are thought to help. It has a distinct retiree community feel, most tourists / vacationers are 65+, mainly Russians and (eastern) Germans. Erzsébet (Elizabeth) is overpriced (we paid almost 95EUR for a pretty horrible room, more about that later) and seriously undermanaged. Upon entry you are struck by the ubiquitous tired oil smell of restaurants below a certain technical standard--likely because the foyer of the hotel and the restaurant are essentially one space. The entire hotel is outfitted as a "luxury" establishment a la 1975, with all the positive and negative sides of that. Dark soft wood wall coverings everywhere, the stinking poliutherane-filled furniture, the whole feel. They also charge your room cost to your credit card before checking out, a major no-no in my book. The room we got looks like a storage facility for unused furniture. Absurd is the word. Two rather tight rooms with furniture designed for twice the space. Curtains that seem to. have been washed last in the 20th century. No water heater for tea (in a hotel that caters for Russians.) Oyy. Anyway, the room also had the feeling that we are not the only inhabitants. I personally collected four flying stinky bugs (and released them to the wild through the window). Here is how you do it: Take a glass from the bar (yes, there is a bar in the room) and a postcard or a sheet of paper. Cover the bug with the glass, slide the paper underneath. Release the creature to nature through the window. DO NOT STEP ON THEM as they really stink. The windows of the room we got, btw, open to the back, you have the view of a small industrial establishment, with trucks, construction materials, all the good things you'd like to look at when you wake up. Speaking of sleep, the bed is way soft for comfort, but this is 1975, as I said, what to do. This is all fun, especially for those who are interested in holidays that involve hunting for flying animals. I don't. The booking forced us into "half board", i.e., not only breakfast but also dinner was mandatory. The dinner was also designed in around 1975, oil, grease, all the schmeer you'd want to have before you go out to face nature, do some early dawn fishing or go out to shoot other, slightly larger flying members of the animal kingdom. I'm not sure you get the picture. We didn't enjoy this hotel, in spite of the remarkable kindness of the staff, both in the reception and the restaurant.

the bedroom was full of COCKROACHES , the staff when we told them where very rude !! the dinner was included in the room price , but available only for a very short time ( 30 minutes ) and not enough put out for all the guest ! Not that after finding Cockroaches in the room we still would have wanted to eat anything , but to charge it and then not deliver is a good way of making money !!

From the moment I walked in the smell of deep fried food hit me. The receptionist at check in (younger lady) was fine, but the older staff the day after were just plain rude.I have read in forums that Hungarians are not naturally 'friendly' and I am OK with that if you are just approaching them on the street etc, but if you work in the service industry part of your job is to be civil at the very least. The food here is amongst the worst I have ever eaten in a hotel. We were half board because there wasn't a BB option but really, after the first evening we had had enough, and only ate there the second evening as there aren't really that many options in Heviz, but we left most of it. There are two soups, you choose your main (one of 3) the day before-so the first evening you have no choice-and there is no choice of dessert. For breakfast there is instant coffee in an urn, bread (but no croissant and no toaster), porridge (safest option), scrambled egg, 'hot-dog' sausage and a selection of cold meats and cheeses. I am usually happy with a continental style breakfast like this but the meat and cheese were not good quality. We had porridge, boiled eggs and bread and butter. We have paid 45/50 euro BB in Hungary and had a much better quality of food-this was 80 including the evening meal, I wouldn't say it was good value. The room was OK, broken bulbs in the bathroom, ripped bathrobes, but the bed was fine. Heviz itself is a bit of a ghost town in September-an older clientele for sure. The lake was worth a trip-but maybe a day trip-or one night at the most-and not this hotel!

This is the third year in succession that my wife and I are staying in Hotel Erszebet during summer, and this time things have changed, negativelly. The price is very ok, to be in Héviz, and with halfboard also. But this year we found that what was not working last year, did not work this year either, and there has to be improvement. The Internet is still much on and off, often you are cut off unexpectedly, and on again minutes later, to do your activity from the start. The breakfast is good, but dinner this year had smaller portions than last year. Two dinners, out of seven, we left the table still a little hungry ! It was very surprising to see that dinner was reduced. Upon paying the system was not working for our card, and the reception said we should contact our bank, outside opening hours ! We told them to check the Internet connection and the router, and then it all worked well. At last it was the same problem as last summer, suddenly the aircondition stops working, for days, with a lot of explanations. At last we had to change room ! All these things are triffles, and should be easy to handle, but do it. The argument that the hotel was fully booked, maybe says more about low price than good quality. Let me say, the staff is friendly and willing to help, but the management has to start taking things seriously.

It is one of the oldest hotels in Heviz and probably the closest to the famous thermal lake. The distance from the hotel to its main entrance is just about 300 m which is likely to take you less than 10 minutes. The hotel is located in not a busy street, but if you wish to stay in an absolutely quiet room, ask for one of the rooms whose window looks out into the hotel inner yard. In this respect our room 212A was perfect. The hotel has recently been modernized, but it still tries to revoke the original atmosphere of the "olden golden days". The rooms are equipped with a well maintained retro style furniture, while the bathrooms meet all the modern standards. The only things I would suggest to replace are the old CRT type TV sets which are almost unwatchable owing to extensive snowing. If you choose half-board kind of accommodation, be prepared for a rather limited dinner menu consisting of only three dishes (two meat, one vegetarian). The staff is pleasant, helpful and polite. They all speak German, but not many speak English. This is not only true of this hotel, but even of some Hungarian travel agencies. When you feel tired from swimming in the Heviz thermal lake you can go to a bus station about 100 m from the hotel, where you can take a local bus to a nearby town of Keszthely. Apart from making a short walk along the lake Balaton coastal promenade, you can avail yourselves of the possibility to visit an amazing Festétic castle located in a beautiful arboretum garden.

We stayed here for a week now in September, and since we have stayed there many times before, we saw there were improvements. First we noticed new matress, very comfortable and good. Then the standard in the restaurant was also much better. The portions have always been big and good taste, but now it was even better, this goes for bith breakfast and dinner. The staff is as always very pleasant, polite and helpful, so it adds up the total impression. Also by the reception the staff is pleasant and polite. We will absolutly recommend this hotel, close by the lake and in the city center.

Nice and clean hotel. Room was cleaned everyday. Stuff helped us with everything what we need, they spoke English (except of people in the restaurant). Wellness place was clean and new. Breakfasts were fine, but the choice could be bigger. Hotel is located in the center, near the thermal lake.

Nice older hotel with good location and staff but also with several problems. During 10 nights we spent there they wasn't able to fix air-condition in our room, all the time we heared just tomorrow or after tomorrow. In 36 deg during day and over 26 at night it was horrible. At reception we were recommended to open window, which was another problem. Even confirmed booking of room with balcony by email, we received only window.

We stayed here for two weeks, and it worked out very well. The reception was polite, and all the staff were friendly and helpful. The location is perfect for going either to the lake or to the center. Room was comfortable, and the price absolutely agreeable. We recommend this 3 star hotel.
