3 nights here was perfect as a base to explore the region. The Guest House is a 12 minute stroll into town, and is furnished in the traditional Portuguese style, and makes a change from the corporate type of hotels. Our room was large, clean, and the bed was very comfortable. There was a small fridge in the room too, and the Portuguese TV channels also had a lot of English-spoken programmes. Bathroom was large and the shower too! Plenty of space for clothes which was good. Extra blankets and pillows available. Breakfasts were huge, far too much on offer to make an impact on it! Fruit, a wide range of cereals, home-baked cakes, cheeses, hams, various breads and rolls, at least 10 jams, lots of choices of fruit juices, eggs cooked to order, the list goes on! The grounds are tended to by the owner Maria herself, the gardens and flowers are lovely, as were the fresh strawberries she picked and gave us! Plenty of parking, plenty of areas to sit in the sun or shade, quiet enough to sit, read or have a drink and watch the sun go down. Definitely worth a direct phone call to check availability and the value-for-money prices ;)

one attractive guest house and well cared for gardens that is a ten minute walk to the centre.check-in was simple and my room was spotless and large with great views and had one very comfortable double bed,t.v and attractive furniture,wi-fi was good,my bathroom was large, spotless and had a bath tub as well as a shower. i could really open up about the host of this guest house and her lovely family and what they did for me but choose not to but if you want a host who will take you in as part of her family then do stay at this lovely guest house. many, many thanks for a memorable stay.

I spent one night at Marias mansion in March and I had a great time. The house offers safe parking and lady Maria is a kind person, who will make you feel like you're not just a guest, but a part of the family. She did everything possible to make sure that I would have a good time. The breakfast is all home made with a variety of marmalades with fruits from the own garden and she also offered several self baked cakes. If you want to make a stop in Castelo de Vide, this is truly the place to be.

Luisa is a warm, wonderful hostess who is comfortable with you roaming around her beautiful property while munching on the fresh figs from her tree and enjoying the other lovely fruit trees in her well tended garden. Breakfast is abundant and delicious - she loves to cook for you.You can store food in her frig. Beds are comfortable and clean, and the setting is quiet. She is located a short walk into town and onto beautiful hiking trails with wonderful views. Don't miss her place.

We recently spent 2 nights in Vila Maria. Unfortunately, the weather could not have been worse. Torrential rain and cold the entire time. How lucky for us that we had Maria!!! She gave me the sweatshirt off her back to wear, then got one of her warm wool sweaters for me!! She even gave the sweater to me to keep for the remainder of our trip. She also gave my husband a warm jacket. Too make our experience even more accommodating, Maria made special breakfasts for my husband since he has special dietary needs. The Vila is not in the town center, but don't let that influence you!!

From the moment we arrived at Villa Maria, we felt welcome. This is a lovely property on the edge of town - about 5 minute walk from the center. Our room had a nice view of the mountains. Maria had a lovely breakfast waiting for us each day with homemade cake and jam. We hope to return and stay longer next time.

Maria Louise's warmth, graciousness, and generosity is amazing. We stayed at Vila Maria on our second to last night of a bike trip. We arrived later than expected, exhausted, dirty, and hungry after an 80 mile day. Maria and her lovely dog, Oskar, welcomed us with such open arms. We got to our room and it was SO comfortable, the shower was wonderful, and the view even better. Maria then recommended a small restaurant not in any of our guidebooks, and it was an amazing meal served by the wonderful owner who was clearly proud of the local Alentejan food. The next day, Maria's breakfast for us was delicious, and she sent us off on our bikes with "to go" boxes filled with delicious leftovers. I am not someone who typically loves bed and breakfasts, but I LOVED our stay here. Please support lovely Maria Louise and enjoy Castelo de Vide!

This experience will stay in our heart forever. Maria Louise knows how to spoil her guest. You really can feel it she does everything by heart. As we arrived she immediately came to greet us and welcomed us inside. She showed us the house and we could choose between two rooms in the upper floor. We took the one with the balcony. It was very very clean and the bed was comfortable and not noise at all. She gave us some tips for dinner (Restaurant Pedro VI) you can easily walk there.. Before we went out for dinner she invited us to try her patisserie and cakes she is an excellent baker. You can chill outside in the huge patio and just enjoy the sun or you can take a walk to the old town. In the morning we were overwhelmed by the breakfast. You can not desire more. 7 different type of jam all homemade, 3 fresh baked cake, 4 different patisserie, cheese, ham, bread, juice, coffee, tea, everything what you ask for is already on the table. She makes you feel at home a part of her home. We don't know if there is WIFI since we just wanted to relax and chill we didn't even ask for it. We really wish we could spent more time at Vila Maria and with Maria Luisa.
