The room was basic, and the road outside was quite noisy. Having said that this was definitely a "budget" break, and for the price we paid, we had everything we needed. Unfortunately, when we arrived they told us that the kitchen had just shut, and they wouldn't be serving any more food. It didn't matter as we found a lovely Thai restaurant in a pub in Cuckfield. The breakfast they served was very good.

This small country inn has a number rooms. Twin rooms are mostly on the ground floor, and queen rooms upstairs in the mansard area. The rooms are very small, with flat screen TV, a small desk area, wardrobe and tea and coffee making facilities. A good English breakfast is offered. Most of the rooms face the street that can be rather noisy at times, although the windows are soundproofed. As there is no air conditioning, this can be an issue on hot summer days (rarely an issue in Britain, admittedly). Some of the ground floor rooms can also suffer from noise from above – this is an old building and the wooden floors can be quite creaky, and the sounds of conversation (and much else) from above can be clearly heard. During our stay the room was not serviced. Overall, a nice and atmospheric accommodation option, despite some of the negatives.

We visited for breakfast as we were staying nearby. Service was fast and friendly but the food was the star. Best pub breakfast I've had by a mile. Good quality produce and the best scrambled eggs I've had in a long time. Everything was cooked to perfection. Will definitely be back if we're in the area again. I didn't take a picture as it didn't last long enough!

This is primarily a public house but does offer accommodation which we had the unfortunate experience of having. The shower didn’t work properly and had some dangerous elements to it. We booked a superior suite for myself and my family x2 adults & x2 children. You couldn’t swing a cat in it and 1 of my children were on a very old style sofa bed the other on a put up bed. The room was located above the kitchen in the attic the room stunk of food. Upon arrival we were told that the room had been set up for just x2 and if we wanted to have it set up for 4 ( x2 Adults x2 children) that there would be an extra charge of £50! I had confirmation of booking that clearly stated x2 adults x2 children and this included breakfast. The shower didn’t work properly but the toilet flushed like being on board an aeroplane. The corner of shower unit was dangerous and my daughter caught her toe and had a splinter from the exposed wood, the tray had no mat so was an ice rink if you dared to have a cold drip shower. The room was incredibly small completely inadequate for us let alone children. Nice breakfast although I only had a cereal as did my children but the cooked breakfast looked good. Upon our checkout they still were adamant about us paying the extra charge and had not even contacted the 3rd party we booked through as they said they would so we had to pay the extra and take it up with the company ourselves upon our return home. Unfortunately for us we had budgeted everything day by day so this was a hit to our budget. I have since had the money refunded thankfully but still we had to cancel things we wanted to do with our kids. This was our only holiday this year! My conclusion was a great pub but shame about the accommodation

Suzanne K, we're disappointed to hear of the negative experience you had at our location. There appears to quite a lot of confusion in regards to your booking. As explained to you in length upon your arrival Yes you had booked the 'family room' but for only 2 people. This is an option and will carry the same cost as booking a standard double room for 2 people. In your case £72. When booking on line, adding additional children is an option but this incurs additional cost due to extra bedding, towels and breakfast. We have never experienced this issue with other guest. We apologise for the inconvenience this confusion has caused you.

The dinner and breakfast was very very good - Possible one of the best full English I've had for many a year. The only problem was the room was very small and a bit tired; the beds and pillows are rock solid so woke up with back-ache. The windows are single glazed so traffic noise is an issue in getting a good nights sleep. The bathroom was very small and really could be turned into a wet-room and dispatch the bath. The dinning areas were very clean, nicely furnished and decorated and the staff were welcoming, friendly and professional.

Food not very good quality and over priced. 3 x Burgers when arrived were grey in colour and tasted of rancid cooking oil. Waitress bought out one plate at a time although there were 10 of us in our party so we had luke warm food. Needless to say We wont be returning or recommending.

Gorgeous hotel. Oodles of free parking, fantastic extensive outdoor area (with heaters under the umbrellas for cool evenings), scoffable breakfasts and just the loveliest staff. First time in a very long time I’ve woken up without a bad back, too!

We woke early for an early flight. There was no hot water, we ran the tap for 15 min. We ended up boiling the kettle and washing our faces. There is no real shower just a removable showers hose and head attached to the wall about knee hight. As breakfast is not till 8:30 on the weekend we were left a breakfast tray outside our door. The milk sat in a jug that had ice in but the yogurt’s had not been refrigerated. We just left and had breakfast and a shower at the airport. There must have been a juke box under our room as all I could hear was boom boom until midnight. Also our door did not lock. The only positive comments I can make are the staff were exellent as was the food in the restaurant
