We have two dogs and were looking for a quiet getaway for our 10 year anniversary. We found Tor Hatch cottage on some sites, but all were nonrefundable and we did not know when there might be another train strike. One site that listed the cottage is run by the family and that is how I booked. Emma is amazing. We traded emails, but she also set up a time to chat where we worked everything out. I was even invited to a yoga class on the property that she leads some mornings. They met us when we arrived and we instantly felt like part of the family, as they were so open and friendly. They went above and way beyond in their hospitality. The cottage itself is lovely and a good space. We breakfasted at the cottage every morning (they even have a milk frother!), made lunch a couple of days and we cooked dinner there two nights; we had all of the kitchen equipment and utensils that we needed. It is also in walking distance to the pubs, restaurants and shops, but you can also schedule an Ocado delivery. The area and property is beautiful and the welcome binder in the cottage is very helpful. We took the dogs on lovely walks and had some tasty meals. But I have to circle back to the family because they really made the place. We felt like we had known them forever and will definitely go back. There is the main house, the cottage and a cabin. We will bring friends next time! I was really a lovely stay. They helped us get transportation home and asked for feedback right then. What could have been better, was there anything that we needed that was missing? They genuinely care, which will always make them the best choice.

We stayed in the cabin for a weekend break as it was booked for a 28th wedding anniversary and it was the perfect choice. Absolutely wonderful. A beautiful location and grounds with a central fountain outlook from the accommodation and beautiful vegetable patches where one could pick and use in cooking of a meal. We were delayed in meeting the owner, Emma, so it was a bonus to exchange a quick conversation as she had another appointment. Emma was really attentive and she explained how the place ran etc but her daughter was on hand if we needed any assistance, which was reassuring. The cabin's main accommodation was lovely, full of artistic beauties and soft furnishings and artwork that added colour and texture to the area. A comfy settee and bed really added to the overall comforts and warm welcome. The spacious bathroom had well appointed facilities and with a tremendous train track chugging by and a swing for those who wish to delve back into their childhood, just added to the ambience. We mainly spent our time going out on long walks in and around the village of Shere and within Surrey Hills. The nearby village of Shere was quaint and quite magical with narrow lanes and serene lakes with a quiet hum of children and adults enjoying the late summer sunshine, drinking beers and wines or just watching the wildlife on the lakes and streams. Our walks also took in nearby villages of Peaslake and Gomshall and it must be said that staying in the UK and the sunny weather really can rival any destination abroad. The TV was an added bonus with a range of channels to suit all viewers and the self catering facilities are excellent. Everything seems to have been thought about in terms of the seasoned traveller. This cabin comes highly recommended and we will return again. Just a proviso: Maybe a suggestion of local walks, mileage etc would be useful and nearby places to eat or visit as well, in a welcome pack, would top off an otherwise superb place.

We stayed at Tor Hatch for a joint 30th party over the bank holiday weekend and it was truly a wonderful experience. The house is stunning and the grounds equally beautiful, Emma & Paul are lovely to deal with and were in constant contact before the event. On our second day we had a garden party and made full use of the huge outside areas, including the tennis courts and swanky new BBQ, we couldn't have hoped for a better stay.

We stayed in the cosy cabin at Tor Hatch, which exceeded our expectations, very comfortable and warm with the log burning fire and large TV. Our host Emma, couldn't do enough to enhance our stay, and cooked a delicious breakfast in the morning. Perfect location for walks and less than 10 minute walk into Shere village. Stunning views. We really can't wait to book again.

Emma and Paul are the very best hosts! Everything was perfect for our Shere week-end escape having Tor Hatch as our chosen accommodation : beautiful house with home atmosphere, cozy and nicely decorated room and bathroom, very comfortable bed, yummy breakfast at their charming dining room with such a great landscape view!.., but above all the very warm atmosphere at their place and having Emma and Paul making every effort to make us feel at home.....made this a ***** + stay! They also recommended us the walking route where we had a wonderful countryside view. the restaurants/pubs around, including the one famous for “The Holiday”film, and were so nice to invite us a glass of wine before going out for dinner and a herbs tea when we came back. Last but not least I forgot some personal staff at the bedroom and they have sent it back to me so fast....more than hosts they really are your friends! Dear Emma and Paul.... Thank you so much for a lovely stay at your home ...looking forward to see you again in a near future! Muchas gracias !!! Claudia & Murray : )

From the moment you pull off of the main road into the driveway you are taken aback by the beauty of the grounds. A stunning English estate with picturesque grounds. I received the warmest welcome from Emma and Paul and was shown to my room which was probably one of the comfiest night sleeps I’ve had! Breakfast was fanastic, with Emma nailing the bacon to perfection, and set me up for the day. Also be sure to ask Paul to see one of his many card tricks! An absoulte pro. All in all a great stay and I would definitely return.

I’ve had the pleasure of staying at Tor Hatch twice and I absolutely loved it. The house is wonderful, the gardens are out of this world and the hosts are lovely, lovely people. Breakfast was home made granola and freshly laid eggs. Divine! We love running and Emma & Paul helped us with directions to wonderful nearby woodland runs. The location is great. There’s just something magical about Tor Hatch and the family who live there. Highly recommended!!

We have been spending two lovely nights with our three teens in this super beautiful estate. Both hosts were extremly friendly and helpful. Great landscape, cosy bedrooms, the perfect breakfast with great garden view and a very good coffee plus fresh fruits were even toped by a cool bottle of white wine after an exhausting day in the Thorpe Park. A clear recommendation!
