If you are English don’t go here as they are waiting to trap you into overpriced food for which they haven’t even advertised the price! So many awesome meals In the local area but this was the weakest and most expensive! Really disappointed, avoid!
Went with two families and we were told everything was finished except antipasti and one type of secondi; seemed u true at the time as we saw what the locals were eating outside, we were clearly now welcome and then completely overcharged for what we...had - such a pity that this type Of place is around when everything else we experienced in Tuscany was so good.More
A classic in lucca. Very good traditional food near Marlia. The tordello alla lucchese is really good and the tagliata as well.
Rustic Italian cuisine popular with both the local gentry and agricultural workers - - everyone comes here. We started with a hearty antipasto of ham, Italian bacon, sausage slices, pickled onions and artichokes, practically a meal in itself. But we had to have the signature...dish, meat ravioli with meat sauce. Perfect.More
We visited twice during our 2 week holiday, it was within walking distance of our villa in Circiana. The food the first time was fantastic, especially the fungi pasta and roast pork. The second time we had wonderful gnocchi and big juicy steaks. Both times...we were served by Marco - the only English speaking member of staff and we were greeted very warmly and he described the menu very accurately both times. We had eaten at other local restaurants but this was definitely our favourite, very reasonably priced.More
I eat here about once per month, great value and nice traditional food. The waitress is a bit crazy and forgets what was ordered but I like this, its a traditional local, you want fine food, go to a city and eat in a chain....You want typical local food with taste and great flavour, this is the place.More
We went there after recommendation from our landlord. It was true as I heard, depends on who was in the kitchen and who is serving you, you will get the food and the service accordingly. The starter was delicious the main dish meat was closer...to be cold than warm, the frites and the salads never made it to our table. Four starters and four main dish plus one soda and home wine €85.More
Simple ,good quality with no frills but a pleasant atmosphere of locals and a genuine welcome from the boss despite him still grieving the loss of his wife .We went three times during our stay in the village , in a group of 4 adults...and two children and were very satisfied .More
We love this place. Service is great and local home made typical Lucchesi food is amazing. Heading back to Lucca this week and will be there the night we arrive!!
Typical food for this type of osteria/area. Terrible service with rude staff. Would not return as there are plenty of better options in the area.
The place could not be named better than it is: "Di Malcontenti" (the dissatisfied) as it is exactly how you will feel after a lunch there. The owner was awfully rude to us, had not even bothered to prepare our table although our hotel had...called to book, she grinned at us when we arrived and showed us a table between the kitchen and the toilets, with a look of exasperation. She then reluctanctly agreed to give us one of the many other available tables. She then told us a list of 4 possible pasta dishes, not showing us any written menu, and we had to insist a lor in order that she accepts to tell us what else was available, other than pasta! Mostly, we looked at the other tables plates in order to get an idea of what was the real menu! We eventually ordered some meat and vegetables, and everything was awfully fat. (See picture) To sum it up, if you want to be malcontento...More
Were given no menus on arrival. Were shocked when bill came to find we had been charged 24 euros for three tiny portions of tortellini which were served on the same plate. Chicken with rabbit was like KFC with a few frozen chips on the...side. Worst meal by far we have had in two years visiting Tuscany. Place swarming with flies and generally rather unclean looking. Avoid at all costs.More
What a nice place. In the middle of the mountains we found this low profile restaurant, with very nice staff. They spoke no English but we had no problem understanding each other. We absolutely loved the food. Simple but delicious. They also sold local specialties...such as wine, ham and cheese. A must while in this region!More
We drove to Il Bottteghino on a Sunday afternoon. Our friends had booked a table at this small restaurant just north of Lucca. As they explained it, 'When you book a table for Sunday lunch in Italy, it is yours for the entire afternoon'. They...further explained that the time allocated for pranzo is 'sacro sant' and that no one would dare telephone between the hours of 1 and 3 in the afternoon. It was a beautiful drive through the hills that were dotted with many historic villas that are open for viewing. The restaurant was peopled with locals from the area enjoying the wonderful food. I ordered a local pasta that is typical of the area followed by the rarest and thinnest slices of roast beef accompanied by roasted potatoes. My husband had a Tuscan steak. Be aware that the Italians serve their steaks very rare. The afternoon progressed with animated conversation and much local wine, of which they are very proud. A request to enter the kitchen was met with smiles from the 'cuoco.' Il Botteghino is a gem of a discovery; small, authentic and a great value.More
