For the life of me, I go to a supposedly good restaurant and spend good money ... they cannot serve vegies with the mail.. just potatoes chips... I eat that at home watching a game.. The meat.. well it was bones and skin ... not...much meat at all I will not go back to this place.More

We enjoyed our lunch very much and found the meal delicious and very reasonably priced for such an abundant meal with good wine and all the accompanying items, home made potato chips, salad. oranges. Very nice waiter as well

I was fortunate enough to be taken to this restaurant by some Lisbon (Macau) friends on the way home from Porto.... What a delight ! The suckling pig was excellent....melted in your mouth. The kind of restaurant I like....and I have eaten at many around...the world in my life. The other surprise for me was the choice of wine made by the waiter - QMF Branco Bruto - a really enjoyable white sparkling wine. When I have eaten suckling pig before (mainly in Madrid) it has always been accompanied by a red wine. Look at their menu on their web site ....impressive....sad I live in the far north. A non-frills place with extremely pleasant service.....Our waiter did not speak English....but we understood each other very well ! I would recommend a visit here to everyone ! And compared to Norway the price was very affordable..... Thank you for a wonderful evening !More

We went here after going to higher-rated restaurants and finding out they were closed. We of course had the suckling pig, which was delicious and served with potato chips and fresh orange slices, but also the salad, which was excellent. The bread, cheese and olives...were great as well. We had an expensive red (€13.50) with our meal that was quite tasty. Service was friendly. We went early, around 6:00 p.m., and the place was empty. By 7:30 p.m. it was full of locals.More

Leitão is good, potatoes, and rice and all side orders are very good, adequate wines, excellent grilled leaver. You can also have bacalhao (cod fish) and other dishes. Typic in Mealhada but with a high variaty. You can choose the room you prefere, there are...at least three.More

Went there for a birthday on a Sunday. Fortunately we booked ahead as the place was packed. The main dish here is roast pig, which was what the rest of the family had and they loved it. I had some nice veal, very tender. Since...it was a birthday we also ordered the birthday cake there. The cake quality was the only thing I didn't like, we should have brought our own. Recommend, but book ahead especially on weekends.More

The simple decor belies the incredible cuisine! Try the pork liver - to die for. Definitely worth going a bit out of the way to reach this place. Wine is local and excellent as well with a very low price.

We chose this particular leitāo joint from the cast of others along the main EN-1 through Mealhad for the simple reason that it traditionally hosts many folks from the local wine industry--and has a wine shop on site to attest to that, selling its own...brands. You can sit down for a full meal, or get takeout by the kg, including pigs' heads and other specialties. We found our leitāo made just right, with enough crunch to the skin and great tenderness to the meat--and the traditional pepper sauce accompaniment wasn't as salty as some. We also like the fact they have vegetarian choices, and other good dishes besides the main event if pig is not your thing. A large, clean kitchen was the final element to recommend this stop above others.More

went back to Nova Casa dos Leitoes after some time due to TripAdvisor ratings and afterwards really mixed feelings. Why? Service was competent and friendly; suckling pig was average but good when compared to other local restaurants; the price was really high (2 adults +...3 kids with house wine and 4 deserts - €100, which is too expensive for Portuguese standards). To think twice before coming back.More

We arrived at noon and there were many people. We ordered a meal. The service was very good but there was no English menu. We waited a long time until the meal arrived. A very interesting dish. Grilled pineapple. Grilled Banana. Gad grilled and other...delicacies. It is highly recommended. As for prices not cheap. We asked for a reasonable price account.More

I would not recommend this restaurant for romantic encounters; the kind of white TL lamp ambiance is not to your advantage, neither is the big surface of the place. A first year interior design student might do wonders here. We're in the region of suckling...pig and espumante so that's what we ordered. That appeared to be a good choice; excellent cooking, friendly service, correct waiting time and yes, also the espumante was OK. We were happy no buses arrived, we're still out of season. Recommended for a good lunch at reasonable cost. Other than suckling pig dishes are also available.More

Popped in on our way back from Busacca and Cruz alta. Most of us opted for the Leitoe which was lovely, tender, succulent and flavoursome. I opted to have the four pepper steak (Bife con quatro pimentas) and molotoff (soft baked meringue) which where both...sublime and one of the best meals of the holiday. I'd certainly return.More

Big restaurant, with plenty of room, but use to be full. The main and famous dish here is the roasted piglet, soft and tender, crispy skin, and delicious. Served with a spicy sauce apart, pepper based. Good for large groups or family meals. DO I...WILL RETURN? yes, is a restaurant I use to visit once or twice a year.More
