Don't let yourself be deceived by the place, which is nothing fancy. The food here is excellent! It's all fresh and tasty. We had the "antipastino di Gianni" and polpo e patate as antipasti, both very good. As first course we had pasta al pesto...and gnocchi peonia (with pieces of tuna fish and swordfish) then as mains one fritto misto and one tuna steak with mixed salad. Had no dessert just because the portions were so huge. We paid 96 euros, 2 bottles of water and 0.5 l wine included. I'm already considering going back. Highly recommended for those of you who appreciate simple dishes prepared with fresh ingredients. Just don't expect haute cuisine or you'll be disappointed.More
We had mixed deep fried seafood and swordfish. It was a bit boring - nothing special. The deep fried seafood was very simple and swordfish was a fried fillet with some basil on. We expected much more on this top rated restaurant.
We had two wonderful lunchs at Mar e Timo in August 2014. The menu (12 euros) was really delicious: food was fresh and excellent. Service was really nice, children-friendly and very efficient. Not surprisingly, this restaurant is always full. Book a table if you want...to have the chance to taste their quality food !More
Clearly, this is a locally popular place. A little too local for us. Other reviewers have focused on the modest prices and fresh seafood. I can't fault the quality of the calamari, potatoes and wine we had for lunch. They were all fine, but everything...was monochromatic, tan-yellow, cooked competently but boringly. The luncheonette atmosphere, AM radio blaring, tiny formica type tables left much to be desired. There is a place for simple food, and the service was efficient and pleasant enough. You will avoid the kind of dishonesty you find at some places catering to tourists, but this was too bland and utilitarian for us. At this price point, perhaps one shouldn't expect more. Previous reviews remind me of the shortcomings of Tripadvisor. They just don't compute.More
