What a great evening. Our server, Kaitlin was excellent, the food superb and the drinks were like magic elixirs! I started with the steak tar-tar which was prepared perfectly and then moved on to the Elk tenderloin paired with a delightful St. Supery Rutherford Estate...Cabernet. Great wine! Everyone enjoyed their meal and the evening.More
Amazing service, delicious food, romantic ambiance. I'll be dreaming of that salmon for months to come!
Just amazing. Wonderful venue, wonder staff, amazing food. The service was impeccable, the team made every effort for us all to have the best time and we did. Cannot recommend enough.
Excellent service! Risotto Pork Osso Buco was amazing! I will definitely go again when friends are in town!
We were in town for the Chattanooga Car show and celebrated my wife’s birthday at this exquisite restaurant in downtown. The food was well prepared and delectable. The beef tartare was simply among the best we have had outside of France. Also, combination of the...duck confit with the magret de canard (duck breast) was brilliant. I only ever had that combination once before. My wife had the Wagyu steak and it was perfect. The seasonal salad touched all of your taste buds. It simply was delicious. The wine choices were on the money. And of course, when you have a meal such as this, the setting must be just right, and it was. Candlelit, but not too dark, white tablecloths, but not too stuffy, and our server was a true professional, he was clearly an experienced server, and would certainly look for him in the future. Believe his name was John (taller side, thinning hair, 50ish). We will certainly return.More
Kaitlyn took our reservation in the afternoon, and we mentioned it was our anniversary. When we came for dinner that evening they had menus with happy anniversary printed on them. All the staff were so warm and welcoming. The food was fantastic. The trout was...delicious. Kaitlyn couldn’t have been nicer and shared her experiences both in Chattanooga and advised us what to see and do in Nashville, our next stop.More
I had a salad - non eventful- lettuce, Parmesan and pumpkin seeds. $14. I had the chicken for my entree. It was dry. Served with root vegetables soaked in red sauce so they came out mushy. Also a small salad on this plate?? Not worthy...of more than 3 stars.More
Decor is lovely. Dessert (Italian creme cake) was excellent. Service was pleasant and well paced. My husband's Waygu beef was on the fatty side, and the antelope I ordered was really tough, even though I ordered it as the chef suggested (medium rare). Steak tartare...seemed like it had been refrigerated for a while beforehand - they really need to prepare this tableside. Wine selection was good, although the wine we ordered was a different vintage than listed and our server didn't bring this to our attention. It would be great if they posted a suggested dress code on the website because there was an confusing variety of attire worn by various diners. This restaurant is certainly better than average but could use some improvement.More
My friend and I decided to try St Johns to say that we had been. We both felt that the two types of bread were delicious in the sorghum butter. We shared the soup. It is their custom to place the contents of the soup...in a bowl, then pour the liquid over the contents. I wonder if the contents would help flavor the soup. Neither of us were very impressed with the taste. My friend ordered the halibut with vegetables. She said that the halibut tasted good and was cooked well, but wanted something to go with the vegetables. I ordered a medium steak with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The steak was undercooked, but the flavor was so good, that I kept my steak. I felt that the asparagus and mashed potatoes were a great pairing with the steak and the sauce enhanced all of the flavors. I was very pleased with my meal. The waitress was very attentive and kind. She was knowledgeable of the menu. We also felt comfortable to talk with her some. Overall, good experience.More
I wasn’t very complimentary on my last review, but last night’s experience brought my score up to a 4 of 5. 1st off the service was stellar, they hire quality folks. The beef tartare at $15 dollars has to be the best deal in the...menu….an ample portion, served with fresh herbs. The mushroom soup was outstanding, they put a couple ounces of lump crab in the middle of the bowl and drown it with a rich creamy soup. The scallops, although tasty and prepared well were smaller than I’d expect given the price. The duck was cooked to perfection. It was paired with a lion’s main concoction which I was really looking forward to, but the amount was so small it was overwhelmed by everything else. This is a pricey restaurant for Chattanooga it’s probably relegated for special events for most customers.More
I had the trout it was superbly cooked and seasoned. Hubby had the halibut, and he couldn’t say enough about that. Yum We didn’t get any appetizers as we couldn’t take home any food as we were traveling. Of course dessert a chocolate cake was...devoured. The woman who served us was very attentive and personable. There was a loud crowd at the bar, but that just added to the atmosphere.More
First time here. Heard allot about this place and my son thought they would bring us here for a nice dinner. We reserved ahead on a Friday. Good thing. It is a very small place and was full the entire time we were there. The...prior reviews were good, but the menu changes all the time. So they may not have some of the plates people had written about during their visit. We started with appetizers. The fried goat cheese and the fries. Both were good and just enough for 4 adults. We then ordered the mains. We got the duck, Fried rice, NY Strip and the spaghetti and meat balls (Friday special). The duck was nice and tasty. Lots of flavors and just the right amount of sides. The fried rice was nothing special. Just like ordinary fried rice, just with an egg and very little rice. Good but I will order something else next time. The pork belly was OK. I've never had it, so I can not make a real good comparison. The spaghetti and meatballs were good. Good flavor. Good amout. The sauce was pretty good also. In all, this place was really nice for a date. The food was good. The service was top-notch. Parking is just pure luck, I think. I can recommend this place. Bring some friends, family, or business coworkers. You will not be sorry.More
An absolutely wonderl evening at St. John's. Had the Chef's tasting menu and every dish was superb. My favorite was the Halibut followed by the Pork Chop, but my plate was clean for every item. Wine pairings were spot on and service as (as usual)...was very efficient and professional. Chattanooga is so fortunate to have a New York City quality restaurant in our town.More
Dined here in early April. They had changed the menu a bit since we last dined here, but the quality of the food remains outstanding. We started with the Florida toast for the table which was a beautiful preparation and a great combination of sweet...and savory. For appetizers, the scallops and crab pappardelle were standouts (the tasting of beets and the leek and potato soup were also good, but the others were slightly better). For entrees, the trout was the star, though the coulotte steak also warrants a shoutout. The wine selection is always great and didn't disappoint. The only odd thing about the dinner was that for the first 20 minutes, one of the restaurant employees (he wasn't a server and sounded like a sommelier or at least the wine buyer) stood in front of our table carrying on a loud conversation with a couple at an adjacent table whom he apparently knew well. It was strange to essentially have to stare at a stranger's back while we were deciding on choices and then enjoying our wine and table starters. Because he was standing between two tables, the conversation also carried and made it difficult for us to carry on our own conversation. We didn't want to be rude, especially because he was an employee and seemed to be genuinely excited to see the couple, but it became an annoyance after a while that threatened to undermine the meal. Thankfully, he wrapped it up just before our appetizers arrived--and may have sensed our growing annoyance--and the rest of the service, including our actual server, was flawless. Aside from that one odd incident, the meal as a whole was fantastic, and St. John's remains one of the best go-to restaurants in Chattanooga.More
