Just reading the review below where ‘Sparty’ have said it’s the first time in 19 years it’s been cancelled due to weather. After tonight I find this difficult to believe. Stood outside in the rain for over an hour where they continued to let us queue with the hope of getting in, they eventually let about 500 of us in the building only to make us wait for another hour till we decided to cut our losses and head back to our hostel. Appalling service in terms of information, nobody told us anything whilst we waited. Ruined my weekend. Terrible all in all and wasted my money getting here.

I'm sure this is a really great and fun event on most nights, but I have to share my experience about the poor planning that went into the event on September 1st.

The forecast had called for thunderstorms all week on this date, and all day it was sporadic storms, with heavy rainfall and lightning. When we arrived, it was some of the heaviest rain and lightning of the night and we were told to wait outside because too many were inside already. After a half hour or so, they tried to move the line underneath a small inflatable overhang, and it just created a mass of people rushing in. They came out and tried to explain over a megaphone, but no one around me could hear what they were saying. After another 45 minutes or so, the wind and rain both picked up more and they let a flood of people in quickly, while others still had to wait under the overhang.

We were lucky enough to get inside, where it was just a mass amount of people shouting soccer chants back and forth to each other, which was funny for the first few minutes, but got old fast. After checking my phone around 11:30, a full hour after they were supposed to begin, I saw thunderstorms predicted until 3:00am. I finally managed to get to the front of the line and since I chose to leave at that time, they took down my ticket number and said I would receive an e-mail where I could verify my information and get a full refund.

The workers did their best with a poor situation, so I don't blame any of them for the mess, but it was extremely poor planning when it was very likely there would be very poor weather conditions.

I'm not much of a night-life person as I tend to become very uncomfortable with large groups of rowdy people. However, when I found out about this unique experience I simply HAD to book it.

I was pretty nervous, but excited, to attend on the night but it was pretty smooth to get in- even through the searching process. I didn't much like being split from my partner into a "female only" queue, but I can totally understand why (women searching women, men searching men).

Once we were inside we quickly found that nobody seems to follow the rules outlined during the booking process regarding drinks in the pool and taking photos. They're also not enforced.. in fact the only rule that seemed to be enforced the whole night was that you couldn't climb on each other's shoulders. This wasn't too much of a drama but caught me off-guard to begin with because I'm quite a stickler for rules.

We had 5 drink coupons between us which got us four beers and three cocktails. The drinks weren't particularly strong- and once we started using cash they weren't particularly cheap either! But they were tasty- especially my Long Island Ice Tea- yummy!

We had a fantastic time bobbing about in the water to the music and watching the brilliant performances from fire-dancers, men with hoops and a lady with a giant peacock-type skirt! (No idea what to call either of those!)

The lights and music created an excellent club-vibe without the horrible cramped conditions which usually come with clubbing. I had the best night and can honestly say that if clubbing was like that all the time I would definitely go! (Although I'd also be skint!)

Our photo was taken by a photographer whilst we were there but (thank God!) it wasn't put up on their Facebook page. I messaged the page and they went through their photos and found the one of my partner and I which they sent to me without delay. This was an excellent gesture as it's the only photo we have from that night and I'm so pleased to have it.

I highly recommend the SPArty to anyone visiting Budapest. It's an incredible experience, not to be missed.
