Neglected post-WW2 for 50 years, the gardens have been fully restored and are fabulous. Walking through, you are suddenly met with a huge sunken garden with paths around the top & bottom so you can see it to advantage. Great for photos too. There is a cafeteria and rambling art gallery in the house but the gardens are the star of the show. Part of the annual Carlow Garden Festival, just near Bunclody town.
Nice place to visit with home baked cakes and coffee, gardens and an art gallery . Very nice grounds with stunning trees.
Tucked away in a lowly quiet bend edging on to Bunclody town in Co. Wexford is Newtownbarry House and Gardens. Easily missed!.. but once found offers the visitor a very gratifying experience of 'a gardener's paradise' on a quaint scale. If you are visiting Co. Wexford, passing through Bunclody town, don't miss an opportunity to have coffee, cake at the house cafe, browse the crafts on sale, wander the floors of art exhibitions, and finally sit silent in 'the sunken garden' where your eyes and senses will be challenged at the incredible array of floral species carefully planted in a most wonderful display.
These garden are situated in the village of Bunclody, Itself rather fascinating. We did not tour the house just had tea and scones the toured the gardens. Very colourful in June but the attraction needs a lot more visitors to pay for the upkeep, well done gardener for your efforts. The gardens need a greater attractions to have a fuller impact, maybe some wood sculptures, A wonderful job done restoring the gardens.
A warning though the drive into the house has "sleeping policemen" that aren't painted and are also too high, even though I drove slowly over them I was concerned they'd damaged my car. A little annoying.
If your in the Enniscorthy area well worth a visit. Stop in the village and have a tour.
First attempt to visit & it was closed but second time lucky. Unassuming entrance, cosy shop & cafe but we took to the gardens straightaway & weren't disappointed. An unexpected layout lay ahead in the form of a sunken garden section. Interesting planting too. So small but perfectly formed.
The house ang gardens were open for visitors As it was heritage week the house tour was free The gardens were pleasent but not very large and plants and shrubs were only ok There was a exhabition in the gallery this was very nice this changes frequently
Thy serve light lunches and lovely homemade cakes in the tea room and if the weater is fine one can sit outside in the courtyard The craft shop is very small with very little stock
