We recently booked a wine tour and tasting at the nearby Castello di Nipozzano, and travelled by train to Pontassieve station from Florence. However when we arrived we were told there were no busses or taxis in the area that would be able to take us to Nipozzano so there was literally no way of reaching it without walking over 5km! Castello di Nipozzano were unable to organise a driver for us either so it looked like we would have to head back to Florence.

Out of desperation I called Fattoria Lavacchio to see whether they could book us onto a tour that same day. The fantastic manager there made a tour especially for us at 12pm and organised a driver to pick us up and drive us to the Fattoria. We had a wonderfully informative tour of the grounds, the lovely fruit and vegetables that they grow and the vineyards. We were then shown the fermentation process and the old cellars where the wine is matured. Finally we had a tasting of 5 different wines (all of which are entirely organic and without chemicals) with local cheeses, meats and bread. These wines included their everyday ones, as well as some more special ones that the Fattoria only produce 500 bottles of every year.

Finally we were shown the shop, where you could buy all the wines for reasonable prices, and the old mill which they are reinstating to a working mill. The tour cost us €18 each, and we paid €25 each way for the driver (seemed about a 7km drive). All in all, we had a wonderful day seeing a glimpse of rural life in Tuscany and tasted some beautiful wines. We would definitely recommend this to anyone in the area, and are considering returning to stay at the Fattoria's attached B&B rooms.

We visited this lovely venue in the hills of Florence. We took the train to Pontessieve & then the venue had organised a driver to collect us as the property was 7km away & no other way to get there. This was the only down side this tour as driver cost 50euro return. We were a small group of 4 & a guide who explained everything. We were very lucky as the truffle hunter & his dog found several black truffle. We then had a little tour of the vineyard with the guide Tetsu before enjoying a fabulous 3 course lunch with truffle & paired wines. We also enjoyed the company of the 2 other guests. It was a fun & special experience on a really lovely property. We would definitely recommend this tour but better if you can get their by own car. Also there is no guarantee about truffles being found.

A beautiful area with wonderful local food & wine. Excellent service along with a spectacular sunset. Dining in the terrace was lovely. The chianti beef was a favorite. The pastas are made with local grains. Charcuterie tray was delicious & if you like chicken pate, don't miss out!!

We recently stopped at Fattoria Lavacchio for an olive oil tasting experience and tour during our drive through the Tuscan countryside. It was a very nice experience for our kids and also my wife and I. Tatsu gave wonderful explanations of olive types and harvesting, and we were able to see some of their olive trees. Then we were able to taste, and I never realized how much can be gleaned from tasting a bit of olive oil. It truly made me appreciate the differences in olive oils, and what can be done to change a simple dish with the right oil. I recommend this experience as a nice way to learn about Tuscany, olive oil, and to have fun as a family. Thank you Tatsu!
