What is My Trips?
My Trips allows you to save hotels, restaurants, reviews and many other items from the TripAdvisor site. You can save several items and build a complete trip plan, or simply collect your favorite things from around the site. Simply click on the Save button next to the item you'd like to save to store it in your My Trips folder. You can add dates, notes, maps and your own information to make a personal trip plan.

What can I save?
You can save hotels, restaurants, attractions, reviews, photos, Inside pages, Forum postings and maps. Just look for the Save button to collect your favorite things from TripAdvisor.com.

What happens when I save something?
When you click Save, you will be asked to choose a folder name for that item. Once you do so, that item will be stored in this folder within your member profile until you choose to delete it.

How do I get to my saved items?
Simply click on the My Trips link at the top right of any page on TripAdvisor. Scroll down and click on the 'Go to My Trips' link. You can also get to your saved items by clicking on the go to My Trips link when you save an item.

I just see a list of items in my folder, how do I view details for each item?
When you are viewing your saved items in your My Trips folders, you can look at them in collapsed view, where only the title is visible, or expanded view with full details, including hotel descriptions and ratings, editable maps and the full contents of reviews, Inside pages and forum posts. By clicking on the green arrow ( ) you can expand or collapse the view of each item in your trip plan.

Can anyone else access my trip folders?
No, your trip folders are only accessible by you. If you would like to share your trip plan with a friend, you can e-mail them a copy of any trip, or print it to share or take on your trip.

How long do my items stay saved?
As long as you like! You can delete folders or items that you no longer want, but anything you save will stay in your My Trips until you choose to delete them.

Organizing your trip folders

Can I move something to another folder once it is saved?
Yes, in fact moving and copying are a great way to set your trip itinerary. You can move and copy items into different folders and subfolders to organize your trip by day or destination. Simply click the Edit link next to the saved item (to see the edit link, hover your mouse over the item name), scroll down to Move or Copy, then select the destination folder.

How do I delete items or folders?
If you decide that you no longer want something in your trip folder, you can delete it by clicking the "Edit" link next to the item and scrolling down to Delete. Entire folders and subfolders can be deleted in the same way.

Can I build a trip by date?
A great way to set a trip itinerary is to use subfolders. Subfolders can be created by selecting Edit next to a folder name, and scrolling down to Create subfolder. You can save items into individual folders and subfolders corresponding to specific days of your trip.

Build by Date

I am going on a multi-destination trip. Can I organize my information by destination?
Yes, when you save an item to your trip folder, it will be sorted within the folder according to its location. For example, something you save from Venice will show up under Venice in your trip folder, and an item saved from Rome will show up under Rome.

Another way to organize saved items by destination is to use folders and subfolders. You can create a specific folder or subfolder for each destination on your multi-stop trip.

I'd like to add more things to my trip. How can I do this?
You can always add items to an existing trip or start a new trip by browsing our site and hitting the Save button next to the item you'd like to save.

You can also search for and save items directly from your trip folder by using the "Add hotels, attractions and restaurants" link. This will open a search box providing two ways to browse for things to add to your trip folder.

  1. To browse hotels, attractions and restaurants in a specific destination. Simply select Search most popular items by location, then enter the location you wish to search in (e.g., Boston). If we find more than one destination with the same name, you will be asked to select the correct one. The search results will display the most popular hotels, attractions and restaurants in that destination. You can browse these items and click on the names to read more about each one, or click Save to add them to your trip folder.
  2. If you know what you are looking for, select Search by name and type in the name of the item you want to find. Once you locate the item in the search results window, simply click Save to add it to your trip folder.

Can I add in my own items, such as flight information, rental car information, and confirmation numbers?
Yes! That's a great way to store your entire trip in one place. Simply click "Add custom info" and enter the information you would like to include in your trip plan. In addition to flight and rental car information, this is a great way to store additional details about your trip, such as tips you received from friends, addresses of your relatives and friends, business locations or shops you just don't want to miss!

Can I add maps to my trip folders?
Yes! There are two ways to add maps to your trip folder:

  1. Click on the Save button on a map anywhere on the site.
  2. From the My Trips tab in your profile, you can add maps to individual items by clicking on the "Map" link next to the item name. This will open a map of the saved item. Once you have adjusted the map for your needs, simply click Save to store the map in your trip folder.

Sharing your trip plans and taking them with you

I want to send my trip plan to my friend. How can I do this?
You can e-mail your trip to anyone you like. Simply select the E-mail link, located in the upper right corner of your My Trips folder view. An email form will appear. You can enter one or more e-mail addresses (separated by a comma). You can also include a personal message to the person you'd like to share your trip with.

What happens when I e-mail my trip folder?
When you select E-mail, we send a message on your behalf to the e-mail address you designate. The recipient will receive a link to a read-only version of your trip folder, which includes all the saved items and any notes, dates, or maps you have added. This link will be available for viewing for 30-days. Changes you make to your trip folder once the message is sent will not be reflected in what the recipient sees.

Can I just e-mail parts of my trip folder?
At this time, you can only e-mail the entire contents of the trip folder or subfolder. If you would like to send selected parts of a trip, we suggest creating a folder containing only the information you'd like to share. You can easily do this by moving or copying the items you'd like to share to a new folder or subfolder.

I'd like to print my trip plan and take it with me. How do I do this?
To print your trip folder, simply click the Print link, located in the upper right hand corner of your My Trips folder view. This will generate a printer-friendly version of the saved items in your folder, including any custom information, maps and notes that you have added. You can then click on Print to send this to your printer.

To print an entire folder and any associated subfolders, click Print from the top level folder. You can also print just the contents of a subfolder by opening the subfolder and clicking Print.

Can I just print individual items?
At this time, you can only print the entire contents of the trip folder or subfolder. If you would like to print selected parts of a trip, we suggest creating a folder containing only the information you'd like. You can easily do this by moving or copying the items you'd like to a new folder or subfolder.
